A number of settlement agreements began allowing consumers to submit claims to receive class action rebates last month. 

The settlements were made to resolve class action claims revolving around false advertising, antitrust and privacy concerns and defective products, among other things. 

A company will often deny committing any wrongdoing when agreeing to a class action settlement; however, it sees the settlements as a way to both satisfy consumers and avoid further litigation.

Nautilus Agrees to Pay $7M to Appease Treadmill Owners

Consumers who purchased certain Bowflex, Nautilus or Schwinn treadmills may be eligible to benefit from a $7 million settlement agreement made to resolve claims Nautilus overstated its treadmills’ horsepower rating. 

Individuals must have purchased the affected treadmills between July 7, 2016, and Nov. 16, 2021, to potentially be eligible. 

Class members will share an equal portion of the settlement funds and receive a free one-year subscription to Nautilus’ workout app, JRNY.

To be included in the settlement, potential class members must submit a valid claim form either online or by mail by May 2. 

SunPower Pays $4.75M Over Defective Solar Panel Claims

SunPower has agreed to pay $4.75 million to resolve claims it sold solar panels allegedly containing defective microinverters in a now-closed class action settlement. 

Consumers who either purchased at least one SunPower solar panel with an allegedly defective microinverter or who own a home where they are installed were eligible to benefit.

The allegedly defective microinverters were installed in solar panels between July 2015 and December 2016. 

Eligible class members will receive an estimated $173.52 in the form of a cash payment. 

The deadline to submit a valid claim form to be included in the class action settlement was March 10. 

Cheesecake Factory Agrees To Pay Diners $4.75M

Cheesecake Factory diners may be eligible to join a $4.75 million class action settlement agreement made to resolve claims the restaurant printed receipts containing too much of their payment card information. 

Eligible class members are those who received a printed receipt containing the first six and last four digits of their credit or debit cards after making a purchase at a Cheesecake Factory restaurant between Nov. 10, 2016, and Feb. 4, 2017. 

Proof of purchase is required to be included in the settlement, which estimates an award between $28 and $56 per class member.

Class members who don’t already have a Class ID number must submit a publication claim form by mail. 

The deadline to opt out or object to the settlement agreement is Mar. 31. 

Restasis Eye Drop Maker Agrees To Pay $30M To End Antitrust Claims  

Allergan will pay almost $30 million to end claims the company engaged in anti-competitive conduct to raise the price of its Restasis eye drops. 

Consumers and third-party payors from more than half of the states in the United States who purchased Restasis eye drops between May 1, 2015, and July 31, 2021, are eligible to benefit from the settlement agreement. 

Individuals who want to be included in the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Aug. 11. 

Safeway Gas Station Receipts Lead To $20M Settlement

Consumers who purchased gas from Safeway may be eligible to benefit from a $20 million settlement agreement made to resolve claims the company printed receipts containing too much card information

Eligible class members are individuals who made a debit or credit card purchase at a Safeway gas station between Sept. 12, 2017, and Feb. 26, 2019, and received a receipt containing the first six and last four digits of their card number.

Class members will receive a cash payment estimated to be between $18 and $36. 

The deadline to submit a valid claim form to be included in the settlement is Apr. 4. 

Apple to Pay AppleCare Purchasers $95M to End Claims

Apple has agreed to pay $95 million to resolve claims that, through its AppleCare service, it provided consumers with remanufactured Apple products as replacement devices in a now-closed class action settlement.  

Eligible class members were individuals who paid for AppleCare or AppleCare+ for either an iPhone or iPad after July 20, 2012, and who subsequently received a remanufactured Apple device as a replacement. 

All AppleCare purchasers will be automatically included in the settlement. The deadline for others to submit a valid application for inclusion claim was Mar. 4. 

John Hancock Agrees to Pay $123M to End Unlawful Price Hike Claims

Consumers with life insurance policies from John Hancock may be eligible to benefit from a class action settlement agreement worth over $123 million.

The settlement was made to resolve claims John Hancock unlawfully raised the premium payments for its life insurance policies. 

Eligible class members are any individuals with a John Hancock life insurance policy who were subjected to a price increase. 

No claim form is needed to be included in the class action settlement; however, the deadline for exclusion or objection is Mar. 29. 

RoundPoint To Pay $1.6M After Charging For Over-The-Phone Payments

Mortgage service company RoundPoint has agreed to pay $1.6 million to resolve claims it charged an unlawful fee to customers who made over-the-phone mortgage payments. 

RoundPoint residential mortgage borrowers who paid a fee for making a mortgage payment over the phone between Jan. 1, 2016, and May 31, 2021, are eligible to benefit from the class action settlement. 

Class members are automatically added to the class action settlement; however, those who want to receive payment electronically must submit a payment option form by Apr. 15. 

Chicken Of The Sea Pays Indirect Purchasers $20M

Indirect purchasers of Chicken of the Sea tuna products may be eligible to benefit from a $20 million class action settlement agreement. 

The settlement was made to resolve claims Chicken of the Sea worked with other companies to artificially inflate the price of its tuna products

Eligible class members are indirect purchasers who purchased a Chicken of the Sea tuna product in the majority of the states of the United States between June 1, 2011, and July 1, 2015. 

Potential class members must submit a valid claim form by Aug. 22 to be included in the settlement. 

StubHub to Pay California Ticket Purchasers Over Fee Claims

StubHub has agreed to a settlement aimed at resolving claims the ticket reseller violated California law by waiting until the end of the ticket purchasing process to display its fees. 

Eligible Class Members are individuals who purchased a ticket on StubHub on either its website or mobile site while in the State of California between Sept. 1, 2015, and Sept. 1, 2019. 

The settlement calls for StubHub to issue $20 million in credits and up to $2.5 million in cash for class members who make valid cash claims. 

The estimated return for class members is between $80 to $133 in credit or up to $20 in cash. 

Consumers who wish to be included in the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by June 25.
