United States residents who used Zoom Video Communications video conferencing services between March 30, 2016, and July 30, 2021, may be eligible for compensation in the form of a cash payment thanks to a recent $85 million class action settlement, regardless of whether they had a subscription.

Settlement Class Members include all U.S. citizens who downloaded, opened, or used the Zoom Meetings Application between March 30, 2016, and July 30, 2021. Those who used Enterprise-Level or Government accounts for Zoom meetings are excluded.

Plaintiffs allege Zoom violated both California and federal laws by sharing users’ information with third parties, failing to prevent unwanted meeting disruptions, and misrepresenting Zoom’s purported end-to-end encryption services.

In some cases, serious meetings involving religious participants and/or children were disrupted by “Zoom-bombing”, which involves showing graphic and disturbing imagery.

Zoom denies the allegations laid out in the lawsuit. While the company has agreed to settle this case outside of court, it does not accept liability for the claims made by the plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit.

The popularity of Zoom video conferencing skyrocketed during the pandemic.

Statistics show Zoom experienced a 2,900 percent increase in daily users from 2019 to 2021. In 2021, Zoom has an average of 300 million daily participants, according to Backlinko. Zoom became a crucial tool for social distancing. From established U.S. courts to primary school teachers, video conferencing has become a new normal.

Class Members who paid for a Zoom subscription can claim $25 or 15 percent of the money paid to Zoom for the video conferencing subscription.

Anyone who used, opened, or downloaded the app without a paid Zoom subscription can claim $15.

Class Members who do not act won’t get a payment and they won’t be able to seek out a future claim.

A final approval hearing in the Zoom-bombing class action settlement is scheduled to take place April 21, 2022.

Class Members who want to seek out a personal lawsuit regarding this matter must exclude themselves from the current Class by opting out with the settlement administrator by March 5, 2022.

Class Members who want to remain in the Class but object to the terms of the settlement must file an objection with the Court by March 5, 2022.

Class Members who want to get their rightful payments must submit a timely claim.

The deadline to file a claim in the Zoom-bombing class action settlement is also March 5, 2022.

  3. RICHARD ANDERSON says:

i too received the email that is was paid to paypal and have not received payment

  4. Sean says:

    Scam.
I also received the email and chose PayPal and was supposed to receive it June 5th. Got email today saying it was paid, but it wasn’t. No payment was received at all.

  5. Leelee says:

I received the payment email today. Get ya money on Mastercard and transfer it to your account. I opted for PayPal and it could take until June 5th before it gets to my account. I’m thinking it would take time for a bank deposit or the paper check option. I don’t have zelle and didn’t want the Amazon gift card.

  6. Josh says:

To folks questioning the E-mail, it absolutely is legit. You will be given six payment options including Direct Deposit, PayPal/Venmo Transfer, a Virtual MasterCard, and Amazon. I elected PayPal and received a follow-up confirmation indicating it will arrive into my account by 5 June.

    1. Sean says:

And I bet you didn’t get it because it was a scam.

  7. Christina Vaughan says:

I just read that appeals held up payments. Now appeals were finished and closed in March. So the time frame for payments seems OK, but do your own due diligence before clicking.

  8. Christina Vaughan says:

I also received an email notice I would receive $32.32 in the Zoom settlement. I am concerned that this may be a spam because payments were supposed to commence in July 2022. Why would they just now be paying us?

    1. Danielle says:

Same! That’s why I’m fact checking. I received the email today, same amount…$32.32. Is this legit?

    2. Leelee says:

I read that payments were supposed to start going out May 18, 2023. I guess we will see today.

      1. Sal says:

Same here. Didn’t want to click.
