Sunshine Mills dog foods are being recalled after the discovery of aflatoxin, a mold byproduct, that can potentially cause serious illness or even death in pets.

Sunshine Mills Inc issued the voluntary recall covering certain lots of Triumph, Evolve, Wild Harvest, Nurture Farms, Pure Being, and Elm-branded dog foods. The specific lots can be found on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recall notice that was posted Thursday.

The recalled Sunshine Mills dog foods were sold nationwide.

While adverse events related to the recalled dog food have not yet been reported to the manufacturer, the FDA urges consumers to seek medical treatment for their pet if they experience any symptoms of aflatoxin poisoning, including “sluggishness or lethargy combined with a reluctance to eat, vomiting, yellowish tint to the eyes or gums, or diarrhea.”

“Consumers who have purchased the recalled products should discontinue use of the product and may return the unused portion to the place of purchase for a full refund,” states the recall notice.

Sunshine Mills dog foods have been subject to several recalls in the past year. In June, the pet food maker recalled Sportsman’s Pride, Sprout Sporting, Intimidator, and FRM Gold Select dog foods due to concerns about salmonella contamination.

Last fall, Sunshine Mills dog foods were subject to a massive recall for a similar toxic mold contamination. The recall covered 58 lots that included at least 23 brands, such as Family Pet Meaty Cuts Beef Chicken & Cheese Flavors Premium Dog Food, Heartland Farms Grilled Favorites Beef Chicken & Cheese Flavor and Paws Happy Life Butcher’s Choice Dog Food

“Sunshine Mills, Inc. has chosen to issue a voluntary recall of the above-referenced products as a precautionary measure in furtherance of its commitment to the safety and quality of its products,” says the most recent recall notice.
