Update:
- Two women have hit back at Keurig and Bed Bath & Beyond’s attempt to dismiss their class action lawsuit alleging the companies sell defective Keurig coffee makers and liquid descaling solution.
- Keurig filed a motion to dismiss the class action lawsuit May 3 in a New York federal court, stating the plaintiffs were using the wrong product instructions.
- Plaintiffs Doreen Cahill and Janet Christman allege the Keurig K-Supreme, K-Supreme Plus and K-Supreme SMART Single Serve coffee makers suffer from identical defects in design.
- If consumers follow the process according to the instructions provided by Keurig on its descaling solution, the process “completely disables” the coffee makers, they say.
- In their opposition to the motion to dismiss, also filed May 3, the women say Keurig “attempts to make mountains out of molehills” by implying there is a material difference between the instructions provided.

Keurig and Bed Bath & Beyond sell defective Keurig coffee makers and liquid descaling solution, a new class action lawsuit alleges.
Plaintiff Doreen Cahill filed the class action complaint against Keurig Green Mountain Inc. and Bed Bath & Beyond Sept. 1 in a New York federal court, alleging violations of state and federal consumer laws.
The lawsuit refers to the Keurig K-Supreme, K-Supreme Plus, and K-Supreme SMART Single Serve Coffee Makers and the company’s liquid descaling solution.
Cahill says all of the coffee makers suffer from identical defects in design.
She says that if consumers follow the process according to the instructions provided by Keurig on its descaling solution, the process “completely disables” the coffee makers.
“The defect makes it so the Coffee Makers cannot be used or properly maintained and renders them unsuited for their principal and intended purpose,” she says.
Keurig coffee makers have multiple complaints online
The problem occurs because the coffee makers allow the water reservoir to empty completely during the descaling process without stopping to tell the user to add more water, causing them to overheat, the lawsuit says.
The only way for the Coffee Makers to be brought back to life is to disassemble them and use a paperclip to depress a miniscule reset button in the center of the thermal switch, it states.
“Keurig has known or should have known about the defect in the descaling process and the inadequate instructions provided on its website and the Descaling Solution bottle since the release of the original K-Supreme Coffee Maker,” Cahill says.
She adds that each of the coffee makers’ webpages are rife with one and two-star reviews from around the country pointing out the alleged problems caused by following Keurig’s descaling instructions.
Cahill is looking to represent anyone in the United States who purchased the coffee makers or the descaling solution, plus New York subclasses. She is suing for breach of warranty, unjust enrichment, negligent misrepresentation, fraud and violation of New York business laws.
She is seeking certification of the class action, damages, fees, costs and a jury trial.
In August, Keurig paid $10 million as part of a class action settlement to resolve claims it misled consumers about its K-Cups being recyclable, and consumers do not need proof of purchase to make a claim.

I have purchased Keurig coffee pot both black one for years ago then another a year and a half later it’s not working and the pads are never all the way full when the coffee is finish please add me.
Add me got one of them
I am currently on my 2nd Keurig coffee maker, I had bought one about 4 years ago, and had a big problem with scaling. I purchased the Keurig descaling pods, and used them as directed, but the problem I have had is that the descaling pods didn’t work. Slowly my Keurig coffee machine just didn’t work anymore. I still had about 38 pods left, and I ended up purchasing a smaller Keurig coffee machine, and after 1 week of using the coffee maker the descaling light lit up! Just to be clear on both of the makers I used bottled water, which is far better than tap water.
Keep using paper clip to open up air pump part the coffee still does not come out it fills up but just a little dribble of coffee this is a waste of pods
On our third machine. We’re told that we did things wrong, I.e. using non filtered water, not pushing down hard enough causing the pod/cup to burst. For a machine that makes 3 cups on a good day, I am always being directed to descale and change my filter. I use zero pitcher water only! Have changed brands of Coffees but it still happens.
The Keurig cleaner is worthless. I had to the row away the maker. Spent a lot of money for nothing
Mine stopped working as well. I had to throw it away. Pretty sad as it was like new. Please add me.
It messed my coffee up add me please
I purchased the Keurig in red and after cleaning it has never worked correctly and the coffee tastes awful. I quit using it.
I own two Keurig machines, and it has given me nothing but problems. The first one shut down after the scaling and now, with the second, after descaling, I see little particles in my coffee. Please add me. Thank you
