Dumplings health alert overview:

  • Who: The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a health alert for raw, frozen pork dumpling products produced by Dim Sum Factory Inc.
  • Why: FSIS issued the dumplings alert because the products were not subject to federal inspection. A recall was not issued because they are no longer available for sale.
  • Where: Dim Sum Factory Inc. is located in Flushing, New York, and the dumplings health alert is valid across the United States.

A federal agency has issued a health alert for raw, frozen pork dumpling products made by New York-based Dim Sum Factory Inc. because the products were not subject to inspection by authorities.

The dumplings alert, issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), applies to 1.5-pound vacuum-packed packages containing “GOGO DUMPLING Pork & Shepherd’s Purse Wontons (Handmade).”

FSIS did not issue a recall for the dumpling products because they are no longer available for sale. However, the products affected by the dumplings health alert have an 18-month shelf life and could be in consumers’ freezers, according to the agency.

Dim Sum Factory did not produce the affected dumplings on its official premises, and the products were therefore not inspected, FSIS said. The agency said it discovered the problem during “routine FSIS surveillance activities.”

The dumplings involved in the health alert are marked with an establishment number “EST. 1656” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

No illnesses reported from products affected by Dim Sum Factory dumplings health alert

Dim Sum Factory has not received any reports of illness related to the recall so far, FSIS says. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Consumers can contact Dim Sum Factory through Sales Manager Daisy Ching at 862-872-0076.

Consumers with food safety questions can call the U.S. Department of Agriculture Meat and Poultry hotline at 888-674-6854 or live chat via Ask USDA from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.

Eastern Meat Solutions Inc. recalled about 40,763 pounds of raw, boneless pork products in May, also due to the products not being subject to inspection.
