American indoor farming company BrightFarms voluntarily recalled its name brand spinach and salad kits over concerns the spinach may have been contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.

The recall involves BrightFarms spinach, grown by its supplier Element Farms at their Pompton Plains, New Jersey farm and distributed to retailers in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

The products involved in the spinach recall — which have best by dates between Jan. 11, 2024 and Jan. 20, 2024 — include BrightFarms’ Baby Spinach, Mediterranean Crunch Kit, Chickpea Caesar Crunch Kit, Bacon Ranch Crunch Kit and Southwest Chipotle products.

BrightFarms said it has not received any reports of illness in connection with the recall and has temporarily suspended distribution of spinach grown at Element Farms.

Retailers have been instructed to remove recalled products from their shelves

Retailers have been instructed to remove all of the recalled BrightFarms spinach and salad kit products from their shelves, while consumers were advised not to consume the products and to discard them.

Consumers can also obtain a full refund for the recalled spinach products by showing a receipt or a photo of the recalled product to its original place of purchase.

Individuals with more questions about the recall can contact BrightFarms directly by telephone at 1-866-857-8745 or through email.

In another salad-related recall, Braga Fresh recalled a single production of Wegmans Organic Sweet Kale Chopped Salad Kits sold in 8-ounce bags in October over concerns the salad kit includes an incorrect condiment packet that contains eggs.
