Hyundai palisade car windshield crack

A recent class action lawsuit claims vehicle owners may experience a Hyundai Palisade windshield crack defect, which was hidden by the auto company.

The Hyundai Palisade is reportedly marketed as the auto company’s “flagship premium” SUV, providing customers with “exceptional comfort, technology, and safety” and “new levels of all-road, all-weather capability, technology, [and] safety” – all backed by the “Hyundai Assurance—our promise to deliver peace of mind to our customers.”

Unfortunately, according to a recent Hyundai class action lawsuit, these representations fail to account for a serious problem plaguing the SUVs: unexpected cracks in windshields.

Windshield cracks can quickly become a serious issue. Even a small chip in the windshield glass can eventually expand into a larger crack or even a “spiderweb” of cracks spreading across the entire windshield.

Cracks in the windshield can impair a driver’s ability to see the road, placing them and other motorists at risk of collisions and injuries.

Plaintiffs Lorenzo Ford and Tina Forehand claim that they experienced a 2020 Hyundai Palisade windshield crack in their vehicles shortly after purchase. Allegedly, 2020 Hyundai Palisade vehicles are prone to windshield cracks within the early days of use.

“Owners and lessees often experienced the Defect shortly after purchase—even on the first drive home from the dealership,” the Hyundai Palisade windshield crack class action lawsuit notes.

Numerous owners and lessees of 2020 Hyundai Palisade vehicles have allegedly voiced concerns over the issue online and filed official complaints with the National Highway Transportation Safety Authority (NHTSA).

“Within two weeks of purchasing the vehicle, a crack developed in the middle of the windshield, just below the rear-view mirror mount,” one NHTSA complaint states.

“Per the dealership recommendation we went to Safelite for an opinion about the cause, since we had no memory of anything hitting the windshield, and the Safelite manager provided a written opinion (via email) that there was no evidence of impact, and it was his opinion that there was a defect in the glass.

According to the Hyundai Palisade windshield crack class action lawsuit, the dealership routinely denies that there is a defect associated with their vehicles and refuses to provide Hyundai windshield warranty coverage.

Instead, the company allegedly blames the issue on consumers and forces them to pay for repairs out-of-pocket.

Adding insult to injury, the issue may continue despite replacing the windshield. A replaced windshield reportedly suffers from the same defect as the original Palisade windshield, meaning that consumers may have to replace the windshield multiple times.

The expenses of these replacements can reportedly add up quickly. Each time a windshield needs to be replaced, consumers are allegedly forced to pay up to $1,600 in repairs. Additionally, other expenses may accompany the costs of replacement, including the recalibration and realignment of various components, such as rear view cameras and display technologies.

The plaintiffs argue that Hyundai is unlawfully taking advantage of consumers by selling defective vehicles, denying Hyundai windshield warranty coverage, and forcing repair costs on to owners and lessees.

“Selling vehicles with dangerously defective windshields and refusing to take responsibility for the defects is a fraud on consumers,” the Hyundai Palisade windshield crack class action lawsuit argues.

“Hyundai refuses to honor its commitment to its loyal customers, is jeopardizing the safety of the public, and is forcing its customers to bear the expense of its mistakes and malfeasance.”

The plaintiffs seek to represent a Class of current or former owners and lessees of 2020 Hyundai Palisade vehicles. They also seek to represent two subclasses of the same Class Members from Illinois or Washington, respectively.

On behalf of themselves and the proposed Class Members, the plaintiffs seek actual damages, statutory damages, punitive damages, other damages, interest, injunctive relief, court costs, and attorneys’ fees.

The Hyundai Palisade Windshield Crack Class Action Lawsuit is Ford, et al. v. Hyundai Motor America, et al., Case No. 8:20-cv-00890, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

I’ve had my Ioniq 5 for 3 months,, and every rock hit results in a chip and self repair.. I’ve had 2 rocks that resulted in cracks across the window.. and i’m awaiting the replacement.. I drive 30k a year and had no issues with my Volvo getting hit repeatedly over 185k miles..

I have a 2020 Palisade and the windshield broke right at the top middle without anything hitting it. I had it replaced and two days later it had another crack from the bottom passenger side. I had the a/c on high and it was extremely hot out. I feel as though these windshields are just defective.

I bought my Palisade June of 2021 and I have had 1 windshield crack last summer and again this summer. The second was a small chip so I went to safelite but it cracked while trying to sustain it. Within 5 days the crack went across my whole windshield. Went to a different company to replace this week and the NEW windshield while Installing … cracked again. I’m disgusted that a $40,000 + car is not being recalled ; this is a safety hazard as I can’t trust it if I did get into a front end collision. I bought this car for all the bells and whistles to be safe.

We own at 2020 Hyundai Palisade. Brought it brand new, and within a few months, had to replace the windshield. We also have Air80 tint on the windshield, which costs an additional $200 to install. Our Palisade is exactly 2 years old, and we have replaced the windshield and the tint three times. Even though the Palisade has been good to us so far, having to replace the windshield 3 times in two years makes it absolute trash. The latest repair came from the weather dropping from 95 degrees to 45 degrees because it snowed. There has got to be a better way because I would hate to have to trade in my vehicle…

A few months ago a small crack developed on our 2020 palisade out of nowhere and has since spider-webbed into two huge cracks! I haven’t talked to Hyundai about warranty coverage yet but I’m not hopeful.

  7. Julie G says:

Also have a 2020 Palisade. Have taken it in for several rock chips I suppose…I mean I only heard one rock and the rest just appeared out of no where. Now today saw the rock hit the middle of my windshield and a big star and crack running down the middle. I feel like this is inferior glass. Never had to replace a windshield before. After reading the comments and having possible bad glass and big bucks to fix it I’m going to hold off as ling as I can.

  8. Angel Oliver says:

Got in my less than a month owned and parked in my garage 2022 Palisade this morning to drive to work and had a crack down the middle of my front windshield.

  9. Henry Leader says:

I have a 2020 Palisade. Last summer I caught a small rock in the center of the windshield by the mirror. Windshield cracked all the way across. Safelite repair $1600. Two weeks ago in a slow moving construction zone got another rock from the vehicle in front of me and got a web crack. Went directly to Safelite and was able to get it repaired. $75.00. In all the years I have driven I have never had a small stone crack my windshield. Even Safelite indicates the glass is bad.

  10. Darlene J Forshey says:

We have a 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe and my husband and 2 other men were riding down the highway when all of a sudden they actually heard the window crack. Nothing hit it, there were no marks showing anything hit it. It just cracked in 2 different directions 3 feet across and 18 inches down. It all started up where the mirror is mounted on the windshield. We have a bumper to bumper warranty but they would not cover it. It is not right.
