Hyundai palisade car windshield crack

A recent class action lawsuit claims vehicle owners may experience a Hyundai Palisade windshield crack defect, which was hidden by the auto company.

The Hyundai Palisade is reportedly marketed as the auto company’s “flagship premium” SUV, providing customers with “exceptional comfort, technology, and safety” and “new levels of all-road, all-weather capability, technology, [and] safety” – all backed by the “Hyundai Assurance—our promise to deliver peace of mind to our customers.”

Unfortunately, according to a recent Hyundai class action lawsuit, these representations fail to account for a serious problem plaguing the SUVs: unexpected cracks in windshields.

Windshield cracks can quickly become a serious issue. Even a small chip in the windshield glass can eventually expand into a larger crack or even a “spiderweb” of cracks spreading across the entire windshield.

Cracks in the windshield can impair a driver’s ability to see the road, placing them and other motorists at risk of collisions and injuries.

Plaintiffs Lorenzo Ford and Tina Forehand claim that they experienced a 2020 Hyundai Palisade windshield crack in their vehicles shortly after purchase. Allegedly, 2020 Hyundai Palisade vehicles are prone to windshield cracks within the early days of use.

“Owners and lessees often experienced the Defect shortly after purchase—even on the first drive home from the dealership,” the Hyundai Palisade windshield crack class action lawsuit notes.

Numerous owners and lessees of 2020 Hyundai Palisade vehicles have allegedly voiced concerns over the issue online and filed official complaints with the National Highway Transportation Safety Authority (NHTSA).

“Within two weeks of purchasing the vehicle, a crack developed in the middle of the windshield, just below the rear-view mirror mount,” one NHTSA complaint states.

“Per the dealership recommendation we went to Safelite for an opinion about the cause, since we had no memory of anything hitting the windshield, and the Safelite manager provided a written opinion (via email) that there was no evidence of impact, and it was his opinion that there was a defect in the glass.

According to the Hyundai Palisade windshield crack class action lawsuit, the dealership routinely denies that there is a defect associated with their vehicles and refuses to provide Hyundai windshield warranty coverage.

Instead, the company allegedly blames the issue on consumers and forces them to pay for repairs out-of-pocket.

Adding insult to injury, the issue may continue despite replacing the windshield. A replaced windshield reportedly suffers from the same defect as the original Palisade windshield, meaning that consumers may have to replace the windshield multiple times.

The expenses of these replacements can reportedly add up quickly. Each time a windshield needs to be replaced, consumers are allegedly forced to pay up to $1,600 in repairs. Additionally, other expenses may accompany the costs of replacement, including the recalibration and realignment of various components, such as rear view cameras and display technologies.

The plaintiffs argue that Hyundai is unlawfully taking advantage of consumers by selling defective vehicles, denying Hyundai windshield warranty coverage, and forcing repair costs on to owners and lessees.

“Selling vehicles with dangerously defective windshields and refusing to take responsibility for the defects is a fraud on consumers,” the Hyundai Palisade windshield crack class action lawsuit argues.

“Hyundai refuses to honor its commitment to its loyal customers, is jeopardizing the safety of the public, and is forcing its customers to bear the expense of its mistakes and malfeasance.”

The plaintiffs seek to represent a Class of current or former owners and lessees of 2020 Hyundai Palisade vehicles. They also seek to represent two subclasses of the same Class Members from Illinois or Washington, respectively.

On behalf of themselves and the proposed Class Members, the plaintiffs seek actual damages, statutory damages, punitive damages, other damages, interest, injunctive relief, court costs, and attorneys’ fees.

The Hyundai Palisade Windshield Crack Class Action Lawsuit is Ford, et al. v. Hyundai Motor America, et al., Case No. 8:20-cv-00890, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

Bought my Palisade about a month ago. 2 weeks later with less than 1000 miles on it, I got my first rock chip while driving on the highway. I thought it was just bad luck. I mean, thousands of pebbles have flown up and hit my old Toyota Camry and the windshield never cracked. So I brought it into Safelite since my insurance was going to take care of it for free. Safelite guy warned me that 1/100 times while repairing rock chips, the windshield will crack. Sure enough, my Palisade was that 1 out of 100. I asked the technician about it and he says he sees Palisades all the time with this problem.

My daughter and my wife got into her vehicle after shopping and heArd a popping noise
    Her windshield began to crack
Less than 550 miles on the vehicle. The crack is half wY across the windshield now we have to payout of pocket.

I have less than 500 miles on my Palisade. On our first real use (on the highway for 100+ mile trip) the windshield got hit by a pebble from a car traveling in front of us. It hit the area right behind the rearview mirror, at the edge of the area that looks like mesh. Within 10 minutes my wife was pointing out there was a crack forming from the star impact point, and it was traveling down the windshield. Initially I could not see the impact from my spot in the driver’s seat. By the time we got home, 1.5 hours later, it had traveled far enough that I could see two inches of the crack from my position. What the heck? Since moving to AZ our Acura and Honda have both experienced multiple rock hits that cause ‘dings’ or ‘chips’, but were easy repairs. This definitely has to be replaced. WTH

Very small pebble hit our windshield and left a star about 2 inches wide. Repair shops all said it was too big to repair. after sitting in the sun the star has spread into a terrifying assortment of cracks. We are trying to schedule a replacement but have been told by the dealer that there are 8 windshields on back order already so it will take them several weeks to get one from the warehouse. My Palisade is not safe to drive with this windshield and so I’ll have to rent a vehicle that can tow 5,000 lbs for the next few weeks until the dealership can get a new windshield. With 8 windshields on back order it is clearly a big problem that Hyundai is clearly aware of!

  6. Heather says:

Received 2 rock-chip cracks within a month of having my Palisade. I had them repaired and within 2 weeks, one of the rock chips cracked all the way across the middle of my windshield. So, now I have a brand new car with a cracked windshield.

  7. Darlene Pedregon-Thornfelt says:

We have had our 2020 Palisade for 1.5 months. A tiny rock hit bottom right corner of windshield – it immediately cracked about a foot toward middle of windshield. Parked vehicle and the next morning, the crack had already doubled in size. This will cost us time, money for deductible, plus toll tag replacement. NEVER had this problem with any other vehicle..same issue with KIA Telluride I have read and they are addressing the issue…

  8. Robert Robinson says:

With less than ten thousand miles on our Hyundai were facing our second windshield replacement. Spontaneous crack appeared while the vehicle was sitting still. Glass is no good.

After having my 2020 Palisade for approximately one month, a small rock hit my windshield. Before I got to my driveway, the crack spread across the windshield. I had it replaced, at my cost, at the dealer where I bought the car. Today, with approximately 5,000 miles on my vehicle, a rock hit my windshield and immediately, the crack spread down my windshield. I’ve had several cars in the past that had similar rock hits and were able to be repaired w/o having the crack spread across the windshield. Not with this car.

    This is a test!
