Hyundai palisade car windshield crack

A recent class action lawsuit claims vehicle owners may experience a Hyundai Palisade windshield crack defect, which was hidden by the auto company.

The Hyundai Palisade is reportedly marketed as the auto company’s “flagship premium” SUV, providing customers with “exceptional comfort, technology, and safety” and “new levels of all-road, all-weather capability, technology, [and] safety” – all backed by the “Hyundai Assurance—our promise to deliver peace of mind to our customers.”

Unfortunately, according to a recent Hyundai class action lawsuit, these representations fail to account for a serious problem plaguing the SUVs: unexpected cracks in windshields.

Windshield cracks can quickly become a serious issue. Even a small chip in the windshield glass can eventually expand into a larger crack or even a “spiderweb” of cracks spreading across the entire windshield.

Cracks in the windshield can impair a driver’s ability to see the road, placing them and other motorists at risk of collisions and injuries.

Plaintiffs Lorenzo Ford and Tina Forehand claim that they experienced a 2020 Hyundai Palisade windshield crack in their vehicles shortly after purchase. Allegedly, 2020 Hyundai Palisade vehicles are prone to windshield cracks within the early days of use.

“Owners and lessees often experienced the Defect shortly after purchase—even on the first drive home from the dealership,” the Hyundai Palisade windshield crack class action lawsuit notes.

Numerous owners and lessees of 2020 Hyundai Palisade vehicles have allegedly voiced concerns over the issue online and filed official complaints with the National Highway Transportation Safety Authority (NHTSA).

“Within two weeks of purchasing the vehicle, a crack developed in the middle of the windshield, just below the rear-view mirror mount,” one NHTSA complaint states.

“Per the dealership recommendation we went to Safelite for an opinion about the cause, since we had no memory of anything hitting the windshield, and the Safelite manager provided a written opinion (via email) that there was no evidence of impact, and it was his opinion that there was a defect in the glass.

According to the Hyundai Palisade windshield crack class action lawsuit, the dealership routinely denies that there is a defect associated with their vehicles and refuses to provide Hyundai windshield warranty coverage.

Instead, the company allegedly blames the issue on consumers and forces them to pay for repairs out-of-pocket.

Adding insult to injury, the issue may continue despite replacing the windshield. A replaced windshield reportedly suffers from the same defect as the original Palisade windshield, meaning that consumers may have to replace the windshield multiple times.

The expenses of these replacements can reportedly add up quickly. Each time a windshield needs to be replaced, consumers are allegedly forced to pay up to $1,600 in repairs. Additionally, other expenses may accompany the costs of replacement, including the recalibration and realignment of various components, such as rear view cameras and display technologies.

The plaintiffs argue that Hyundai is unlawfully taking advantage of consumers by selling defective vehicles, denying Hyundai windshield warranty coverage, and forcing repair costs on to owners and lessees.

“Selling vehicles with dangerously defective windshields and refusing to take responsibility for the defects is a fraud on consumers,” the Hyundai Palisade windshield crack class action lawsuit argues.

“Hyundai refuses to honor its commitment to its loyal customers, is jeopardizing the safety of the public, and is forcing its customers to bear the expense of its mistakes and malfeasance.”

The plaintiffs seek to represent a Class of current or former owners and lessees of 2020 Hyundai Palisade vehicles. They also seek to represent two subclasses of the same Class Members from Illinois or Washington, respectively.

On behalf of themselves and the proposed Class Members, the plaintiffs seek actual damages, statutory damages, punitive damages, other damages, interest, injunctive relief, court costs, and attorneys’ fees.

The Hyundai Palisade Windshield Crack Class Action Lawsuit is Ford, et al. v. Hyundai Motor America, et al., Case No. 8:20-cv-00890, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

I bought a 2020 Palisade in May. A rock hit my windshield and cracked it. I got the windshield replaced, and two days later the windshield cracked on its own. I am supposed to go get another windsheild next week, but really don’t want to end up in an endless loop of getting new windsheilds.

  2. Nicole says:

Since purchasing my 2020 Palisade I have had to replace 8 windshields. I got dropped from State Farm insurance because of all of the claims. I emailed corporate Hyundai and never received a response. I drove around with a cracked windshield for 6 months and had it replaced 2 weeks ago… 5 days after install I got a chip which instantly started to spread so I had it filled. I was going to have the windshield ceramic coated to help prevent this and the day I was on my way to have it done it got another chip which spread wide instantly. Since that the crack is now across my entire windshield but I am trying to wait on replacing so I do not loose coverage from my current insurance.

I bought a 2023 Hyundai Palisade. I have had it for less than 6 months.
    1. I have had the windshield replaced two times already without any coverage ($1000 each time)
    2. We had to switch insurance because of the high theft rate. This is because you can hot wire the car with a USB stick from under steering column (google it).
    3. We have also had multiple issues with the Blind Spot Protection error, where the steering wheel is almost un-turnable. Very scary.
    4. There is also a windshield washer defect that is out, but they have not fix for it as well.

This was the worst purchase I have ever made, and we will be looking to trade this in on a Manufacture who is committed to built safe cars and correct the issues that arise.

  4. Vanessa Ragland says:

I have a 2022 Palisade. The windshield first cracked while the vehicle was parked. Hyundai denied my claim to repair. My crack is also in the middle similar to this article.

  5. Renee says:

I was on vacation in Disney World when a crack in my 2022 Palisade appeared out of nowhere. The repair people even said Hyundai kept sending them defective glass. It ate up part of the first 3 days of my vacation, but I was able to get it replaced with insurance covering most of it. Still, I keep waiting for it to crack again.

  6. Harvey Moses says:

Bought my 2020 Palisade limited on December 2019. In April while driving late at night my windshield cracked unexpectedly. There were no cars or trucks around and nothing hit my windshield.
Hyundai denied my claim and I had to pay out of pocket for a new one.

  7. Linda says:

The first crack appeared about 6 months after purchasing my 2020 Hyundai Palisade. I had the windshield replaced. I am currently dealing with a second cracked windshield.

  8. M. Sharma says:

I have 2020 Pallisade and the windshield cracked unexpectedly without any reason on a paved road. Nothing hit the windshield and the crack kept on getting bigger now it has spread end to end. I have called Hyundai but no remedy was provided. They brushed it off by taking no ownership to the cracked windshield. I also called NHTSB in Canada, and they do not seem this a safety issue.
Hyundai gave me the run around by sending me from one dealership to another to have it inspected by different service managers who did not accept any responsibility for the design flaw and deemed it as normal ware & tare.

Hyundai needs to do better and take ownership.

  9. Kieran Walsh says:

I drive a 2022 Palisade. Have a cracked windshield now. Not caused by impact.
