A Ford driver is suing the automaker alleging at least five Ford models are equipped with defective 10-speed transmissions.
Plaintiff Daniel McCabe recently filed the class action lawsuit against Ford Motor Co. in a Massachusetts federal court, alleging violations of state and federal consumer laws.
According to the lawsuit, at least five models of Ford vehicles are equipped with 10-speed transmissions that cause the vehicles to jerk, shift harshly, lunge, clunk and hesitate between gears, Car Complaints reports.
The lawsuit also alleges the 10R80 transmissions can cause a sudden loss of power in 2017-2023 models of Ford Expedition, Ford Mustang, Ford Ranger, Ford F-150 and Lincoln Navigator.
McCabe is looking to represent anyone in the United States who formerly or currently own or leased one or more of these vehicles with a 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission.
McCabe said he leased a 2019 Ford Ranger with a 10R80 10-speed transmission in 2019. About seven months after he leased the Ranger, the 10R80 10-speed transmission started jerking and “held gears much longer than it should,” he alleges.
Ford has refused to recall the defective transmissions, lawsuit alleges
The class action lawsuit alleges Ford knew or should have known the transmissions contain defects.
McCabe says Ford failed to warn owners and lessees about the allegedly defective 10R80 transmissions, and now those vehicles are worth less than they should be.
“Because of the Defect, the Class Vehicles are likely to suffer serious damages and potentially catch fire if accidents occur, and there is an unreasonable and extreme risk of serious bodily harm or death to the vehicle’s occupants and others in the vicinity.”
The plaintiff seeks certification of the class action, damages, fees, costs and a jury trial.
In March, Ford asked a federal judge in Michigan to dismiss a class action lawsuit revolving around claims it sold vehicles with an alleged defect that can cause them to roll away unexpectedly.
In 2022, Ford Motor Co. dealt with class action lawsuits, a class action settlement, a recall, a price hike, supply chain woes and a lawsuit of its own. Click here for more details.

I have a 2010 Ford 150 and my truck lost power on the freeway. Thankfully, I was in the slow lane and moved near the shoulder. No warning, no lights, nothing it came to a complete stop on the shoulder. I could have been killed if I continued driving to an exit. I ended up putting a new transmission in the truck. I never had any indication prior to this that the transmission was slipping and just had the truck serviced.
I have an expedition max (21) clunking and klanking, hard shift, hesitation shift…dealer keeps telling me “those transmissions are just klunky” and won’t do anything to fix it and I’m about out of the originAl warranty

The dealer has had my truck for 5 months or so and say there gonna put a new 1 in it but it is just sitting there. So whom ever is in charge of this please give me a call at 586 443 3388 I’d like to join thus suit. My name is Shawn thanks
My husband’s 2018 F150 is having a lot of these issues and every time we take it in, the dealership states there is nothing wrong. Please add us.
My 2018 F150 SuperCrew with 10R80 transmission exhibits all the classic issues mentioned in any of the articles found online. Very harsh up-shifts and downshifts. Loss of power, slips into neutral, misses gears and various other issues. Is there anything I need to do to join the class action?
I need some help ☹️ the whole truck is falling apart, including the transmission in my 2018 F-150 10-speed. I don’t have the money for this 🙁
2018 XLT Ford f-150 10 speed transmission shift harshly through gears. Clunks when put in reverse. Gears sometimes get stuck and have to wait until it’s in track again.
I own a 2019 expedition xl and it has started clunking and failing to engage. It is quite scary it sounds like the transmission is going to fall out.
I have a 2020 F-150 and am having the same problem. The Ford dealership currently is stating that it is a valve body issue. I would like to join the class action lawsuit
I have a MY2018 F-150 and the transmission has the same problem described in this article. I had the vehicle multiple times and has never been fixed.
My 2019 F150 platinum has been in the shop for over 60 days for a failed cdf drum. The drum slides forward and bust an o-ring seal causing erratic shifting and banging. The repair is 8800$ I was 300 miles out of warranty, I previously called multiple dealerships to try and get my truck in around 59k miles to no avail. Ford will only cover 85% for there defective transmission.
