Woman opening LG refrigeratorA class action lawsuit claims that a defect in LG refrigerators’ compressors causes the appliances not to function.

According to the LG class action lawsuit, this defect causes LG refrigerators to fail within a few years.

Plaintiffs Gary Sosenko, Diane Terry, and Michael Burrage say they purchased refrigerators from LG that are equipped with linear compressors, and paid between $1,400 and $7,000.

Allegedly, the refrigerators possess a defect in their linear compressor, the central component responsible for cooling.

The customers say that the manufacturer actively represented the refrigerators as long-lasting and effective, and did not disclose the defect.

The LG refrigerator class action states that each consumer made the choice to purchase their LG fridge over other models because they reviewed information provided by the company about the product.

The refrigerator owners say they didn’t see any disclosure about the defect, nor were they told that the refrigerators are prone to compressor failure.

According to Sosenko and other the plaintiffs, they spent significant time and money trying to fix their refrigerators, and in some cases, their food spoiled and they went without a working refrigerator while their refrigerator was being fixed.

The consumers claim that they were financially injured by the defect because had they known that the fridges were prone to failure, they would not have purchased them or would not have paid as much for them.

Additionally, the LG refrigerator class action claims that the plaintiffs were injured because they were forced to pay for repairs, had to pay for spoiled food, and went without a refrigerator.

According to Burrage, he contacted a repair person like the other consumers, and was explicitly told that the compressor should not have failed so quickly, and should have lasted at least 10 years before failing, instead of lasting only a few years as it had in his case.

The LG refrigerator class action lawsuit notes that the National Association of Home Builders established that the average lifespan of a refrigerator is approximately 13 years, and LG reports that their refrigerators have a 20-year life span.

Sosenko, Terry, and Burrage say they specifically chose to purchase an LG refrigerator over other options because they prefer the features and aesthetics of the refrigerator to those of other refrigerators, and because LG advertises their refrigerators’ high quality and functionality.

However, the consumers claim that these representations are false, and if they encounter another LG refrigerator, they will not purchase it unless the company takes sufficient steps to “cure the defect and ensure the accuracy of its representations about its refrigerators.”

According to the LG fridge class action lawsuit, LG uses a different kind of compressor than most refrigerators and advertises the benefit of their compressor.

Allegedly, these compressors possess a more efficient mechanism that is “up to 25 percent quieter” than traditional compressors and possesses other attractive attributes. However, these compressors are reportedly more prone to failure than other compressors.

The LG refrigerator class action states that LG knew or should have known that the compressors fail prematurely but did not take sufficient action to correct the problem.

To support their claim that the company was aware of the defect, the plaintiffs note that many consumers have complained about the defect and that news stations reported on it.

The LG refrigerator owners are represented by Daniel C. Girard, Jordan Elias, Adam E. Polk, and Simon S. Grille of Girard Sharp LLP.

The LG Refrigerator Compressor Defect Class Action Lawsuit is Gary Sosenko, et al. v. LG Electronics USA Inc., Case No. 8:19-cv-00610, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

Would love to join in this lawsuit too regarding LG. My refrigerator quit on Saturday losing all the food in it. It is not even 4 years old. Called the Lowes Warranty Protection, they showed up on Wednesday to say the compressor needs to be replaced. He ordered the compressor but said it would be at the least 3 weeks before part would be here and then I would be placed on their schedule. Also the warranty covers lost food but the representative said I had to have a receipt for the lost food. Who keeps grocery receipts??????

I have a similar story as above mentioned. We bought a whole set to finish off a brand new kitchen in September of 2017, here we are 5 years later and I have a a compressor that has failed on my LFXS29766S French Door Refrigerator. The first time we called to see about getting help they informed me that they put out a bid to three companies to come out, 4 days later no response. I looked into the companies they provided they are from over 70-100 miles away and one was for TV service repair. Sure enough I called no luck in repairing my fridge. Called LG back and immediately was old a repair person can come out in 5 days. (hmm why didn’t we schedule this route the first time?!?!) I guess i like camping out of coolers in my own kitchen. Sadly this is not my first interaction with LG as I had to contact them just 2 months ago twice to fix the heater on my dishwasher. I thought i was buying products from reputable company to finish of my kitchen appliances and in half a decade its all garbage.

We bought a LG Model LMXS307766, manufactured in March 2015, bought in March, 2015. Compressor has no failed and we have paid a tech $135 to diagnose that, and provide estimate of $1500 +/- to repair! After discovering this website – not worth it! Will gladly join the lawsuit! Evidence is still in the basement!!!

LG refrigerator model LFXS29766S not making ice not staying cold . warranty technician said compressor needs to be replaced but they don’t do that kind of job. Purchased at Home Depot seven years ago

LG is still doing it, bought ours in November 2020 and it died last weekend, it is just under two years old and there for out of the one year warrantee. don’t know for sure it is the compressor yet because we bought a five year extended through home depot and am working with them to get it diagnosed. But we have had non-cooling events for over a year that we chocked up to maybe the kids didn’t close the freezer quite right… Yep, that is not the case at all. Our model isn’t covered by the lawsuit, the lawsuit needs to be expanded or a new one needs to be brought forth as LG is still doing it. Our model is the LRFCS25D3S French doors with bottom freezer pull out and no ice or water dispenser or maker.

I agree, the law suit or the Consumer Protection Agenct needs to expand and get involved! We bought a house 2 years ago and it had all LG, I was nervous as I had heard about the issues. We have had the fridge serviced 2x, the microwave replaced, the dishwasher and stove each serviced once. What a bunch of crap. LG appliances should not be priced nor placed next to other brands for comparison in stores. They should have to back up EVERY product they have made if there is a function that has been repeatedly an issue. Actually they should be forced to buy back their crap and shut down.

Have LG french door refrigerator purchased in 2018. Freezer and ice maker not working. Most appliance repair outfits in Fairfield County Connecticut will not work on LG appliances as they regard them as “junk”. Had a difficult time dealing with LG Customer service. The list of repair services they recommended was not helpful.
    Add me to the lawsuit.

  7. Adrienne says:

Same story as everyone else. LG French Door (LFXS28968S) purchased July 2019 from Best Buy and stopped working this weekend – barely 3 years old. Appears to be the compressor. LG cannot locate a tech in our area, so supposedly their Escalation Dept working to find someone. How is that possible near Atlanta, GA? Local tech is $70 to diagnose and says a compressor will be at least $1200 fix, and no one local wants to deal with being reimbursed by LG and they don’t recommend we try to pay them and chase LG for the money because they said LG will never pay us. Appears LG is a known problem manufacturer. So no fridge, $400 lost in meat alone, and based on other comments, no end in sight to get a timely repair resolved. How do I join the class action lawsuit please???

  8. Ron B. says:

Extremely disappointed customer, my husband and I purchased an LG Door to Door side by side fridge Model: LSXS26366S/00 from HomeDepot in 2015. On 8/29/22 our refrigerator stopped cooling and working one day before heading on vacation for labor day we canceled our trip really mad. We called LG Rep. and were told the cost would be a $135.00 upfront fee just for a Tech to come out then an additional $250.00 for a total of $350.00. That’s not all, we were told if the compressor is out that’s the only thing under warranty that would be covered because it’s covered up to 10 years, and whatever else the repair guy thinks needs to be taken care of will be an additional charge, in the meantime, all my food was spoiled we had to wait until after the Labor day for a tech to show up, not done had to buy temp refrigerator and grocery I mean everything was Awful… customer service no help. This refrigerator still should be working. We were told it would last 10-15 years, only lasted 6 1/2 years. Please contact me I would be more than happy to sign up for the lawsuit against LG for false advertisement and deceiving the public on the quality of their product.

    1. Maci says:

Same problem here.My refrigerator stopped working on Labor Day and I can’t get a technician to come out. LG response is lackluster, plus the repair services they recommend don’t want to deal with the compressor.

  9. Larry W Lehman says:

LG fridge just died! <6 years old. Kitchen aid purchased in 2006 was still running in December when we sold the house! Samsung purchased 2013 still running, spare fridge as we have large family that visits. Guess I will not be buying LG again!!! Just lost $100s in spoiled food (what we could not get into the ‘old’ Samsung).

  10. Daphne Rhoden says:

How do I join the lawsuit? Refrigerator stop working after less than 2 years. and refuse to fix without upfront out of pocket expense. Not fair to consumer.
