Woman opening LG refrigeratorA class action lawsuit claims that a defect in LG refrigerators’ compressors causes the appliances not to function.

According to the LG class action lawsuit, this defect causes LG refrigerators to fail within a few years.

Plaintiffs Gary Sosenko, Diane Terry, and Michael Burrage say they purchased refrigerators from LG that are equipped with linear compressors, and paid between $1,400 and $7,000.

Allegedly, the refrigerators possess a defect in their linear compressor, the central component responsible for cooling.

The customers say that the manufacturer actively represented the refrigerators as long-lasting and effective, and did not disclose the defect.

The LG refrigerator class action states that each consumer made the choice to purchase their LG fridge over other models because they reviewed information provided by the company about the product.

The refrigerator owners say they didn’t see any disclosure about the defect, nor were they told that the refrigerators are prone to compressor failure.

According to Sosenko and other the plaintiffs, they spent significant time and money trying to fix their refrigerators, and in some cases, their food spoiled and they went without a working refrigerator while their refrigerator was being fixed.

The consumers claim that they were financially injured by the defect because had they known that the fridges were prone to failure, they would not have purchased them or would not have paid as much for them.

Additionally, the LG refrigerator class action claims that the plaintiffs were injured because they were forced to pay for repairs, had to pay for spoiled food, and went without a refrigerator.

According to Burrage, he contacted a repair person like the other consumers, and was explicitly told that the compressor should not have failed so quickly, and should have lasted at least 10 years before failing, instead of lasting only a few years as it had in his case.

The LG refrigerator class action lawsuit notes that the National Association of Home Builders established that the average lifespan of a refrigerator is approximately 13 years, and LG reports that their refrigerators have a 20-year life span.

Sosenko, Terry, and Burrage say they specifically chose to purchase an LG refrigerator over other options because they prefer the features and aesthetics of the refrigerator to those of other refrigerators, and because LG advertises their refrigerators’ high quality and functionality.

However, the consumers claim that these representations are false, and if they encounter another LG refrigerator, they will not purchase it unless the company takes sufficient steps to “cure the defect and ensure the accuracy of its representations about its refrigerators.”

According to the LG fridge class action lawsuit, LG uses a different kind of compressor than most refrigerators and advertises the benefit of their compressor.

Allegedly, these compressors possess a more efficient mechanism that is “up to 25 percent quieter” than traditional compressors and possesses other attractive attributes. However, these compressors are reportedly more prone to failure than other compressors.

The LG refrigerator class action states that LG knew or should have known that the compressors fail prematurely but did not take sufficient action to correct the problem.

To support their claim that the company was aware of the defect, the plaintiffs note that many consumers have complained about the defect and that news stations reported on it.

The LG refrigerator owners are represented by Daniel C. Girard, Jordan Elias, Adam E. Polk, and Simon S. Grille of Girard Sharp LLP.

The LG Refrigerator Compressor Defect Class Action Lawsuit is Gary Sosenko, et al. v. LG Electronics USA Inc., Case No. 8:19-cv-00610, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

Count me in. My LG refrigerator is 3 -4 years old and starting to make strange noises. Just doesn’t sound right. Something tells me that it’s going to quit working soon. Only two senior citizens live in the house, and we take great care of it. The ice-maker doesn’t make ice any more, so we’re back to the old fashioned ice trays. Very disappointed in the refrigerator.

I had the same problem with my LG refrigerator. The compressor went out after only a few years. I lost all my food in the unit. I had to wait over a week for the part. When the repairmen originally showed up at my house he commented that he knew what the problem was and said that this problem is frequent on these refrigerators. I’m glad this class action lawsuit is moving forward. Count me in.

We bought an Lg Fridge for $3200.00. It lasted one year. In fact the compressor went out 3 days after the warranty expired. Lg customer service and Best Buy customer would do anything about, They are a piece of junk.

I have a 4 yr old LG french door fridge/freezer on bottom – It has already broken a spring which keeps the door closed; noisy compressor w/random strange sounds, and the deli tray is so hard to close – had it fixed the first few mos. we had it but it broke again after the 1 yr. warranty – but again, it is sometimes stuck and so hard to close, feel like I’m going to break it. Awful awful fridge. Count me in.

We had to buy a new refrigerator also after only having it for 5 years. We lost everything we had in it. We had to have the ice maker fixed several times. We bought this one at Lowe’s and haven’t had it 2 years and have had to have the ice maker worked on three times now. We were told by the repair man it didn’t matter what brands you buy Whirlpool makes all of them now and we live in a throw away world and their not made to last anymore. So please feel free to add me.

I am on this website simply because I just learned of a class action suit against Ford I did know about as of 3 April 2019 that affects my vehicle and it looks as though I may be out of luck. I am active duty military and move quiet often. I decided to continue looking through this site and came across this class action suit. My 80+ yr old mother, less than 2 weeks ago had to replace her 4 yr old LG refrigerator due to it not getting cold. I reside in a different state and she informed me of her issue. I traveled to her location and sure enough all food in her refrigerator was spoiled and the inside was warm/hot. End result for her was to have another refrigerator. We went to Lowe’s and the representative (military retiree) recommended she not to get an LG product. He only stated that he has spoken with several Lowe’s customers and they primarily complained of a compressor issue; which had cost several large sums to attempt to fix but in the end end they had to replace. I am not sure he knows of the suit but you can be sure the next time I am at that location I will update him. I am disappointed that refrigerator only last 4 years. It was purchased new and touted as a very good product by the store clerk. Never again.

My expensive top of the line LG refrigerator purchased at LOWES was an absolute piece of junk. My repairman was here working on a temporary VISA from Europe and kept telling me it was working fine! I purchased and placed small thermometers thru out and of course got multiple different temperature readings that were very high temps! Eventually it was found that the whole inside of the frame was completely iced up with ice that had now turned brown in color! I took my IPAD Pro 12 and documented the repairman taking it apart, revealing many pounds of ice. It was a complete joke of a design. The repairman told me it was one of the worst designs he had ever seen in his career and told me to buy the cheapest, plainest, no frills refer I could find as all new refers are built the same way. I now have a Whirlpool Gold Series and it too is plagued with over 300 known defects according to the new Whirlpool technician! What a huge consumer rip-off this is. Plus, most repair techs can’t fix them as they can’t determine which parts are bad, resulting in purchasing whole MOTHERBOARDS and Complete SETS OF NEW COMPONENTS and then the whole motherboard must be reprogrammed if the tech even knows that. Yes, I went through PURE HELL ……..
