Details: The Samsung TV settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, entitled Russell, et al. v., Samsung Electronics America, Inc., that alleges Samsung manufactured and sold certain Samsung-branded televisions that contain a capacitor defect that cause the televisions to experience symptoms such as not turning on, experiencing a delay in turning on, making a clicking sound, cycling on and off, or other similar problems (the “Covered TV Symptoms”).
Samsung denies the allegations in the class action lawsuit, but has agreed to settle the case to avoid ongoing litigation.
The television models covered under the Samsung TV capacitor settlement are:

If you own one of these Samsung TVs and experienced one or more of the Covered TV Symptoms listed above, or if you experience a Covered TV Symptom within 18 months after March 2, 2012, you can claim one of the following benefits from the Samsung TV class action lawsuit settlement:
(1) A free service visit to determine if your TV has a problem covered by the class action settlement and, if it does, to fix the problem. You must call (888) 899-7602 within 18 months from March 2, 2012 to receive this settlement benefit. If your TV requires more than one repair for a capacitor issue covered by the class action settlement, you will receive an additional $50 payment.
(2) A refund of expenses you incurred, prior to March 2, 2012, to evaluate or diagnose the problem covered by the class action settlement (up to $150). You must submit proof that your TV has a Covered TV Symptom (such as a receipt, bill cancelled check or credit card charge, correspondence, verification from repair provider) before March 2, 2013 to receive this settlement benefit.
(3) A refund of expenses you incurred, prior to March 2, 2012, to fix the problem covered by the class action settlement (up to $150 to fix the capacitor issue or $300 if the repair included replacing a power supply board). You can also receive up to $150 to cover shipping expenses, including insurance costs, you incurred to fix the TV. You must submit a claim form and proof that your TV had a capacitor issue by March 2, 2013 to receive this settlement benefit.
(4) A $300 debit card if you reported to Samsung, prior to March 2, 2012, the problem covered by the class action settlement, but did not get it fixed, and you no longer possess your TV. You must submit a claim form and proof that you purchased a TV within 90 days of March 2, 2012 to get this settlement benefit.
In other words, a customer who repaired their Samsung TV may receive up to $600 for diagnosis, repairs, and shipping, plus $50 if they need more repairs; while a customer who no longer has the TV can still receive up to $450 for diagnosis and compensation.

Our tv stopped turning on. When called Samsung they told me the tv model was not on the list for the class action. It is a faulty capacitor, a newer model July 2009. Seems they never corrected the problem on the newer models and told me the warranty is expired and would have to pay out of pocket to fix it. I’m sure I’m not alone here. The model # is LN40B630N1FXZA. Is there another class action suit against Samsung for faulty capacitors on later models?
My tv same model just started having the same issue. Samsung refused to help. I’m seeing a lawyer.
I have gotten the run around also by Samsung. My problem is red dots in the top center of the screen. They have tried everything to fix this problem but it never went away. Now after 2 years its getting worst. THIS NEEDS TO BE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT! I see on the internet that this is a world wide problem. I have a:

I will never buy another Samsung product. I paid over $600 for a dishwasher in 2010 and it had to be repaired 3 times in less than a year. I called Samsung to get some help or see if they would exchange the product, however, they would not. They sent yet another repairman out to tell me the motor was burned out and there were no parts on the market. WHAT? The dishwasher was installed by Best Buy, never abused, and was used very little. It sat at my curb on garbage pick-up day less than a year old. NO MORE SAMSUNG!
I agree with #35 There needs to be another class action lawsuit filed.. I just posted on their facebook page, that I believe Samsung has a known issue and sold thousands of TV’s on HSN knowing there was a defect. Come to find out the TV didn’t even come with a standard 1 year manufacturers warranty. I’m very disappointed in Samsung.
we had bougt a samsung tv and after 8 moth star acting up turning it self on or will frieze them it when of and them I whet to this playce they charge me 150.$$ and still not working properly
We need to start another class action lawsuit for the additional models not covered by this lawsuit. Contact Federman & Sherwood to get enough clients and interest to get reimbursement for these defective televisions Samsung is creating in mass numbers and not willing to support. I tried to file under this lawsuit, but was denied by Samsung as they said my model was not included.
It seems to me if company’s still sold their products with warranties like they did in the good ol’ days where you bought something and it was warranted for at LEAST 3 years at no cost to the consumer, they wouldn’t suffer these class actions…. No, I didn’t file a claim here just sayin…..
I bought an Samsung back in 2004 I think it was, anyway, it was purchased from a store here in Texas called, Fryes Electronics Store and I am more convinced now that a lot of their merchandise is DEFECTIVE. I was a 31 in. I can’t even remember the model#, but when I bought the first one it played beautifully for 3 days…..on the 4th day it would not even, come on. Loaded it on the truck and took it back to the store under the stores warranty, and traded it for a smaller one 28 inch I think. What do you know, after the store 90 day warranty, the same thing happens and I did not send in Samsung’s. Samsung still made good on it as if I did. Told me to go ahead and take it back or they will give me a list of local repair techs, at no cost to me. Of course because this was the second problem with Samsung t.v, I took the first suggestion, and loaded it back on the truck again, and took it back but, then…..I traded it for a 28 in. Phillips, that was a 100 more difference…….I still have my Phillips, I wonder can I be compensated for all the problems Samsung gave me.
I have one of the models listed in the capacitor suit, but have had none of the problems listed. My defect is the white and black spots caused by a failed DMD chip. With all the other chip fails listed online, it seems another class action is warranted to cover this failing component as well. Samsung told me that my tv was not one of the ones listed by them as having DMD problems. Go figure. They also did not inform me that it WAS on the list for the capacitor class action. I am not happy with the level of care from Samsung.
I have (2) 50″ Dell plasma TV’s that are both dead Dell model number 5001CHD, when you pull the back cover off they are Samsung’s #S50HW-YB01. Why weren’t we notified about this class action suit when owning the Samsung product with the Dell name on it? Is there a suit against Dell and these plasma TV’s?
