An LG refrigerator class action settlement has been reached regarding cooling defect issues.

Plaintiffs in the LG refrigerator class action lawsuit claimed that their appliances were defective due to a cooling defect which caused refrigerator failure. Due to the alleged defect, refrigerators failed to stay cool and therefore spoiled food.

Unfortunately, the cooling defect was reportedly not covered by LG under warranty. One plaintiff says he was forced to pay $700 to have the issue diagnosed and fixed. When the appliance failed again less than a year later, he claims he was forced to pay out-of-pocket once more for repairs.

LG has not admitted any wrongdoing but has agreed to resolve the claims against them with a $1.5 million LG refrigerator class action settlement. Under the terms of the deal, LG customers can collect cash payments depending on their situation.

Without proof of purchase, Class Members can collect up to $50 for unsuccessful repairs, $100 for out-of-pocket labor costs, $50 for delayed repairs, and up to $250 for property loss.

Proof of purchase will entitle Class Members to higher payments, including full reimbursement for labor and parts, up to $1,000 for unsuccessful repairs, up to $1,000 for delayed repairs, up to $3,500 for property loss, and $650 for replacement of LG refrigerators. More information about payments is available in the “Potential Award” section below.

LG is also implementing an enhanced customer care program which will extend LG refrigerator warranties and provide payments for cooling defect issues in the future.

In order to benefit from the LG refrigerator class action settlement, Class Members must file a valid claim form by Feb. 5, 2021. Receipts, invoices, photographs, payment card records, inspection records, insurance records, or other reasonable documentary proof are not required but may result in higher payments for Class Members.

The deadline for exclusion and objection in the settlement is Dec. 10, 2020. The final approval hearing for the LG refrigerator class action settlement is scheduled for Dec. 15, 2020.

Thank you for contacting the LG Fridge Settlement Administrator,

    Recent Email

Funding was received last week on this batch, so we are currently in the process of preparing the checks. Your check should go out shortly. Due to delays with the postal service, please allow until July and if you still have not received your funds, please feel free to reach out and let us know. Thank you for your patience

  6. Kathy says:

I got the same email as many others saying that my claim was denied due to insufficient documentation on 4/11/22. I resent all the information. Then I got an email dated 4/26/22 saying that a check was mailed on 3/31/22. (No amount mentioned). I have not received a check. The email said that if I did not get it by 5/31, I should file a lost check claim. How did they mail these things and expect it to take 2 months to get to the recipient?

  7. Keisha Rivers says:

Anyone knows when the last round of payments are. I was told I was in the final round after denials went out.

  8. GP says:

They are being sketchy with these payments, received an email (again) that my claim was denied even though I already provided everything twice. Anyone else received that email? At this point I am over this

    DATE: April 11, 2022

    CLAIM NUMBER: ****

    CONFIRMATION CODE: *****

    Dear ********:

This is a final notice regarding your claim in the LG Refrigerator Settlement, (Bentley, et. al. v. LG Electronics U.S.A., Inc. Case No 19-cv-13554). Your claim has been denied for the following reason(s).

    1. DALE H CLINTON says:

got the same notice…..ya see, the longer they take to process this case….the more
interest they make….im sure they already got paid, so what is the hurry to pay off
the consumers that were affected by this default…lg should be ashamed…but most corps dont have a soul

    2. Guillermo says:

Just got an email that my claim was denied because I guess my fridge’s serial # didnt qualify which is BS as they never mentioned anything about serial #s before, only model numbers but whatever, never buying LG again.

Thank you for contacting the LG Fridge Claims Administrator.

According to our records your claim has been denied. Your serial number does not qualify under this settlement. The Covered Models are the following LG Refrigerator models, with serial number range 401********* to 712*********. The list of the Covered Models is available for reference at the Settlement Website,

      1. Dawn Johnson Schoeppner says:

Did you do your claim online? That is where I did mine and you had to first enter your model number and only if that was one included could you move on to the next question which was your serial number. Then only if that matched you could proceed with the rest.

    3. Sharon Surprise says:

I’m currently dealing with a LG problem to I got mine as a present around aug 20th 2020 as the refrigerator in the apartment I moved into wasn’t part of the Management requirements based on section 8 apartment I’m supposed to have a repair man come on April 22 but been without since April 12 and all my food for Passover was able to celebrate that neither lost 315 dollars in food from my food stamp and thank God for that as it’s clear when I purchance the food on the 9th sure couldn’t eat that much food in 4 days let’s hope for the best with both of our issue

    4. Tiffany M Leuthold says:

I am getting the run around as well. I received a denial email 4/11/22 that said I had until 4/26/22 to fix the claim. There is nothing to fix. I filed the “Enhanced Warranty Claim form twice now.
Purchase date was 2/9/16 and No cooling event started 12/29/20. I want to keep fighting this. I have spent so much time documenting and want to recoup my losses.
      Ugh!

    5. Dawn Johnson Schoeppner says:

Yes I got that crap email too. They denied that I submitted any documents with my claim even though I submitted 20pdf files. They when I found my initial email proof of this they kept sending me your claim isnt complete emails. So I kept asking what is missing and all of their answers would be generic and not fitting to the situation. Finally someone told me since I didnt complete the last section on home damages that was possibly it but idk they’ve been so sketchy and deceitful thus far I dont trust them.

    6. Dawn says:

They are telling everyone that no proof was sent. They’re hoping you somehow miss the email so they can pay you less or you no longer have the proof to show. They have done the same crap with me over and over even though I presented them with their original confirmation email that shows some 20pdf files were uploaded and then I said if you lost it here is my proof I did my part so this sounds like a personal problem for you not me. Good day now. Smh this is the most deceitful admin I’ve seen in any settlement by far. Who ever is running this show needs fired on the spot! Can anyone tell me what state the checks are coming out of and any description on the envelope? I have something coming in thr mail today and I see the word money through a clear window and the words important Information enclosed is stamped on it. I cant think of anything else of this sort I’m expecting so im hoping it’s my check 🍀🙏

      1. Guillermo says:

Any update with your claim or if you ever received a check? I just gave up, not worth my time or stress going back and forth with these incompetent people. Super sketchy how they handled everything

  9. Ann says:

    I got a check for $103.25!
We had full proof of the twice fridge going out of order. Delayed repairs by 3 months. That’s all they paid.

    1. Ann says:

I guess it’s pointless to call them and find out why such a small amount was paid back?

    2. Dawn Johnson Schoeppner says:

Um they cant do that. The initial description says how much you can expect for each issue and it was way more than that. You need to contact the main counsel in the lawsuit.

  10. Ric says:

Informed Delivery shows a check in the mail, fingers crossed!
