An LG refrigerator class action settlement has been reached regarding cooling defect issues.

Plaintiffs in the LG refrigerator class action lawsuit claimed that their appliances were defective due to a cooling defect which caused refrigerator failure. Due to the alleged defect, refrigerators failed to stay cool and therefore spoiled food.

Unfortunately, the cooling defect was reportedly not covered by LG under warranty. One plaintiff says he was forced to pay $700 to have the issue diagnosed and fixed. When the appliance failed again less than a year later, he claims he was forced to pay out-of-pocket once more for repairs.

LG has not admitted any wrongdoing but has agreed to resolve the claims against them with a $1.5 million LG refrigerator class action settlement. Under the terms of the deal, LG customers can collect cash payments depending on their situation.

Without proof of purchase, Class Members can collect up to $50 for unsuccessful repairs, $100 for out-of-pocket labor costs, $50 for delayed repairs, and up to $250 for property loss.

Proof of purchase will entitle Class Members to higher payments, including full reimbursement for labor and parts, up to $1,000 for unsuccessful repairs, up to $1,000 for delayed repairs, up to $3,500 for property loss, and $650 for replacement of LG refrigerators. More information about payments is available in the “Potential Award” section below.

LG is also implementing an enhanced customer care program which will extend LG refrigerator warranties and provide payments for cooling defect issues in the future.

In order to benefit from the LG refrigerator class action settlement, Class Members must file a valid claim form by Feb. 5, 2021. Receipts, invoices, photographs, payment card records, inspection records, insurance records, or other reasonable documentary proof are not required but may result in higher payments for Class Members.

The deadline for exclusion and objection in the settlement is Dec. 10, 2020. The final approval hearing for the LG refrigerator class action settlement is scheduled for Dec. 15, 2020.

    $450 today in NC

    1. Kathy says:

My fridge stopped cooling on 6/20/2019 and took 2 full months to get fixed. I lost food (of course) and because of the delays, I had to go purchase a new refrigerator. Today I received a check for $350…..no explanation of how they calculated it. It certainly doesn’t jive with the guidelines they listed in the original submission guidelines. $350 doesn’t cover the lost food, much less the fact that it took over 2 months to fix or the cost of the new appliance. What a joke.

      1. M says:

I agree. Seems sketchy. So many details were provided to them and yet we can’t even get a explanation of payment. Way less than I expected for sure.

      2. Taron says:

Today I received a check of just $180 after I provided so many proofs about my fridge not cooling twice. I also sent them the receipt that I had to replace my fridge with new one. I should have not sent any proofs and I should have received $450. What a scam. I hate this law forms, complete scam artists. These law firm might have pocketed millions and sent us peanuts. Can it be reported to BBB?

    2. B says:

      Received mine today.. 🤑.. TX!!

  2. Zeke Jones says:

    1. Zeke Jones says:

      $959.40!

    2. Dawn Johnson Schoeppner says:

I dont understand how anyone is getting less than 450 as that was the no proof minimum. You need to fight that. Contact the lead attorney Girard

  3. M says:

  4. Steve Gilmore says:

My LG fridge decided to quit cooling about 4 days ago, over year after LG settled the class action lawsuit. Not being a member, Does that mean I’m screwed, have to buy a new one? Will lowes replace it and settle with LG?

    1. Niki says:

We are in a similar situation. We just had a repair for the 4th time for non cooling issues! The other issue is we paid for a warranty and they are not honoring the warranty! Anyone else having this issue with the warranty? We are wanting to get anothe law suite going!

  5. L winski says:

Getting phone transfers out the wazoo, for days. Paid repair techs with a suggestion to buy a new fridge, its cheaper that way. 400.00 dollar advice??????. WOW. Maybe LG means Lousy Garbage. “Can’t complain about the service —–There ain’t none

  6. Dallas Dagenhardt says:

Anyone receive any reimbursement in March 2022?
I filed a claim and then it was denied because I didn’t attach the proper receipts – which I originally DID…
I resubmitted and took screenshots and copies of everything that was for proof… this was back in October 4, 2021.
I’m starting to think I should involve my own lawyer.

    1. Jackie says:

Same thing happened to me. I wrote an email and finally got a response that said my submission was approved. They said they expect to finish in the next few weeks and then they will send payment so that means we should probably see them by January of next year 😂😂

      1. T weed says:

        Probably January of 2024

    2. Karen M. says:

Hi, I did the same thing, submitted everything and they came and said i didn’t. So, I resubmitted it again in 3 different ways. Email, online site, and physical mail. I received Email back on November 4,2021 saying they received all the documents and that was the last I heard…It’s now end of March…I should have gotten loss of repair and replacement benefits at least. Let me know if you get anything. katxtwo922@hvc.rr.com

    3. Pam says:

Yes also me my repairs weren’t done by any of those accepted but I wanted them to see that I had valid claim and my home was destroyed with hurricane Ida so I had to submit a difiency cliam for default payment that was nov 2021 go figure

  7. Tom says:

I emailed them about my claim in February and after I few more attempts to contact me they finally emailed me back told me they located my claim but said there were some information missing so I might not get what I should get then they said when lg sends them more money then that’s when they pay some claims

  8. James Anderson says:

My question is regarding our purchase of a model not listed in Class Action suite (LMXC23796S) Purchased 09/19/2018. Delivered 10/08/2018. Compressor failed 10/07/2021. Informed by A&E, the only repair facility authorized by LG, original bad Compressor can not be serviced. We had to purchase a new refrigerator because medication had to be refrigerated. We lost over $1,000.00 in food.
Now the only LG representative will do is reimburse us $2,642.70 plus $200.00 for food loss.
How can LG keep selling refrigerators with bad Compressors after the Class Action suite is closed?

  9. TRUE says:

so should 45 & all his SUCKERS, U FOOLS will believe anything, so very SAD.

    1. DALE H CLINTON says:

just curious, did you graduate from high school?

      1. Jackie says:

Why would you say that? Seems like an intelligent, class act. And I guarantee he owns at least one pair of white Oakley sunglasses and has a barbwire tattoo

  10. IDK says:

Where my money. Still waiting here in California

    1. Kathy says:

Is it possible, the admins are just dragging this out, getting paid more the longer it takes, leaving less (if any) money for the claimants?

      1. Aaron Flaler says:

Is it possible this is all a huge scam, and we are waiting for checks that will never arrive. And those who received checks were bots??

    2. urs clavadetsdher says:

      Where’s my money? N.E. WA.
Attorneys representing the plaintiffs are as lame as LG not responding to inquiries.

      1. Deanna C says:

Yep still waiting here in Texas and I send in receipts and a very detailed letter certified to these people. We will NEVER buy another LG product again. Junk!

        1. Kimberly C says:

          Still waiting in AZ
