An LG refrigerator class action settlement has been reached regarding cooling defect issues.

Plaintiffs in the LG refrigerator class action lawsuit claimed that their appliances were defective due to a cooling defect which caused refrigerator failure. Due to the alleged defect, refrigerators failed to stay cool and therefore spoiled food.

Unfortunately, the cooling defect was reportedly not covered by LG under warranty. One plaintiff says he was forced to pay $700 to have the issue diagnosed and fixed. When the appliance failed again less than a year later, he claims he was forced to pay out-of-pocket once more for repairs.

LG has not admitted any wrongdoing but has agreed to resolve the claims against them with a $1.5 million LG refrigerator class action settlement. Under the terms of the deal, LG customers can collect cash payments depending on their situation.

Without proof of purchase, Class Members can collect up to $50 for unsuccessful repairs, $100 for out-of-pocket labor costs, $50 for delayed repairs, and up to $250 for property loss.

Proof of purchase will entitle Class Members to higher payments, including full reimbursement for labor and parts, up to $1,000 for unsuccessful repairs, up to $1,000 for delayed repairs, up to $3,500 for property loss, and $650 for replacement of LG refrigerators. More information about payments is available in the “Potential Award” section below.

LG is also implementing an enhanced customer care program which will extend LG refrigerator warranties and provide payments for cooling defect issues in the future.

In order to benefit from the LG refrigerator class action settlement, Class Members must file a valid claim form by Feb. 5, 2021. Receipts, invoices, photographs, payment card records, inspection records, insurance records, or other reasonable documentary proof are not required but may result in higher payments for Class Members.

The deadline for exclusion and objection in the settlement is Dec. 10, 2020. The final approval hearing for the LG refrigerator class action settlement is scheduled for Dec. 15, 2020.

LG refrigerator stopped cooling after 4 years. Under warranty, the LG Technician replaced the compressor that lasted for 4 months, not cooling again. Another technician came out to flush, evacuate and recharge refrigerant. That lasted 4 days and not cooling again. Contacted LG and they now say I am out of the warranty by 1 week and now does the fridge not qualify for a refund or replacement. Is that standard practice to place a band-aid fix to the larger LG problem for the sake of pushing you past your warranty so they don’t have to honor it? Lost food on three occasions, continue to buy ice and numerous hours on the phone (taking time off of work) with no results.

$1150. I hope everyone else get their checks soon as well.
The ordeal of the LG refrigerator is over. It doesn’t quite make up for the repair and eventual replacement of it after broke again 2 years later. But at least it’s something.

    1. Dawn says:

So as everyone else here has already stated they didnt pay any of us per the settlement rules clearly listed. Well I presented this whole scenario on AVVO and multiple attorneys answered back and they all told me to go to the lead counsel if we are all being paid wrong that it’s their job to intervene on this. So today I just now called Girard Sharpe the lead counsel and I spoke for us all. I told them that the majority of us class members speak on this website and they arent paying any of us right. This woman had the nerve to say oh we cant help you it’s on them now. I said ummm that is funny. When I presented this question on Avvo I had I know 4 or 5 attorney’s chime in and they all said the exact same thing. If we feel they arent paying us per the settlement guidelines it’s up to the lead counsel to intervene on our behalf. But I guess since you already got paid it’s one of those what do you care huh. So she took my name and number and I’m waiting on a call back now. Everyone that feels they were paid wrong needs to call them. There is power in numbers folks!

  9. Deanna C says:

Check received today finally for $439.64! Would love to know how they figured this out. Lost food, waited for someone to come tell me (2 weeks) that it was the compressor. Before that brought my own appliance guy to confirm total loss $130. Then went and had to buy a new fridge because even those crappy LG people said they would replace the compressor BUT NOT PAY FOR LABOR… seriously! Glad I received something but expected a lot more! What a major let down! We will never buy a LG product again! LG=life is NOT good with you! Lawyers and claim administrator you could do better! You need to make this right even after I spent so much time on my claim, attached receipts and proper documentation. What a freakin joke.

    1. Petra Hamman says:

I totally agree; dealing with LG was a NIGHTMARE. have not got a penny yet

      1. Kelly says:

LG fix my compressor 3/2021. As of today my refrigerator is doing it again. Ice maker goes out, then the freezer stops keeping thing frozen, my refrigerator should be starting to keep things cool. They gave me the same service number of the people who replaced the compressor last time.

        1. Ryan says:

It’s happening to me again as well. It will be my 3rd compressor…..2nd time having to pay the 700 in “cleaning” the lines and freon leak repairs that happed due to coils going bad from the bad compressors. I never even found out about this lawsuit until after it was closed….soooooo bummed. I guess I am just out of luck

  10. Dawn says:

So today I FINALLY received a check in the mail from them. When I opened it after all the crap they’ve put me through making me resend my proof of claim and the 20 pdf files attached I know 40 something times while they STILL kept saying nothing had been received and I went through all their horrible case management issues all caused by their extremely low standard of what doing their job means and I pushed through all of that headache with them to open up a 350 dollar check when I expected into the thousands. I was pissed!!!! I immediately put them on notice they aren’t paying claims by the standard agreed upon rate and not just in my case in many of our cases. I then said I’m about ready to personally go to the court about how this admin has ran this from the start. I sent a copy of my email to the lead counsel as well letting them know although they’ve been paid we certainly haven’t and if we have it’s not the agreed upon settlement amount we have received and we want what was agreed to and nothing less so they need to to do their damn job and get us paid properly. I also mentioned we’ve been told we’d get paid before the end of last year and that was a joke. Then when we continued to inquire on when we’d get paid they kept telling us they’re waiting on more funds from lg before they can send out anymore. I then said it seems to me like their objective is LGs budget not this class of members seeing compensation as they should be.

    1. Diddo says:

Diddo to literally this entire thing. I even too screenshots of every correct proof provided with attachements shown as sent. Still had to resend 20 times and hunt the lawyers down and demand action over this year and all for $350 it’s BS I claimed all losses and repairs with receipts and proof of food loss… does not make sense… something seems very sketchy the more I hear identical stories practically from everyone….

    2. Nate says:

I just received my check today $281 no where close to my claim, had refrigerator repaired 3 times and finally disposed of it and paid a disposal fee to, this uncalled for. I was also sent an email to fix my claim I did. I also mailed in my claim with pictures of damage and all receipts. Made them sign off on it, and have a copy of that… I’m out thousands as well
