An LG refrigerator class action settlement has been reached regarding cooling defect issues.

Plaintiffs in the LG refrigerator class action lawsuit claimed that their appliances were defective due to a cooling defect which caused refrigerator failure. Due to the alleged defect, refrigerators failed to stay cool and therefore spoiled food.

Unfortunately, the cooling defect was reportedly not covered by LG under warranty. One plaintiff says he was forced to pay $700 to have the issue diagnosed and fixed. When the appliance failed again less than a year later, he claims he was forced to pay out-of-pocket once more for repairs.

LG has not admitted any wrongdoing but has agreed to resolve the claims against them with a $1.5 million LG refrigerator class action settlement. Under the terms of the deal, LG customers can collect cash payments depending on their situation.

Without proof of purchase, Class Members can collect up to $50 for unsuccessful repairs, $100 for out-of-pocket labor costs, $50 for delayed repairs, and up to $250 for property loss.

Proof of purchase will entitle Class Members to higher payments, including full reimbursement for labor and parts, up to $1,000 for unsuccessful repairs, up to $1,000 for delayed repairs, up to $3,500 for property loss, and $650 for replacement of LG refrigerators. More information about payments is available in the “Potential Award” section below.

LG is also implementing an enhanced customer care program which will extend LG refrigerator warranties and provide payments for cooling defect issues in the future.

In order to benefit from the LG refrigerator class action settlement, Class Members must file a valid claim form by Feb. 5, 2021. Receipts, invoices, photographs, payment card records, inspection records, insurance records, or other reasonable documentary proof are not required but may result in higher payments for Class Members.

The deadline for exclusion and objection in the settlement is Dec. 10, 2020. The final approval hearing for the LG refrigerator class action settlement is scheduled for Dec. 15, 2020.
