An LG refrigerator class action settlement has been reached regarding cooling defect issues.

Plaintiffs in the LG refrigerator class action lawsuit claimed that their appliances were defective due to a cooling defect which caused refrigerator failure. Due to the alleged defect, refrigerators failed to stay cool and therefore spoiled food.

Unfortunately, the cooling defect was reportedly not covered by LG under warranty. One plaintiff says he was forced to pay $700 to have the issue diagnosed and fixed. When the appliance failed again less than a year later, he claims he was forced to pay out-of-pocket once more for repairs.

LG has not admitted any wrongdoing but has agreed to resolve the claims against them with a $1.5 million LG refrigerator class action settlement. Under the terms of the deal, LG customers can collect cash payments depending on their situation.

Without proof of purchase, Class Members can collect up to $50 for unsuccessful repairs, $100 for out-of-pocket labor costs, $50 for delayed repairs, and up to $250 for property loss.

Proof of purchase will entitle Class Members to higher payments, including full reimbursement for labor and parts, up to $1,000 for unsuccessful repairs, up to $1,000 for delayed repairs, up to $3,500 for property loss, and $650 for replacement of LG refrigerators. More information about payments is available in the “Potential Award” section below.

LG is also implementing an enhanced customer care program which will extend LG refrigerator warranties and provide payments for cooling defect issues in the future.

In order to benefit from the LG refrigerator class action settlement, Class Members must file a valid claim form by Feb. 5, 2021. Receipts, invoices, photographs, payment card records, inspection records, insurance records, or other reasonable documentary proof are not required but may result in higher payments for Class Members.

The deadline for exclusion and objection in the settlement is Dec. 10, 2020. The final approval hearing for the LG refrigerator class action settlement is scheduled for Dec. 15, 2020.

  1. RJ says:

I called three weeks ago for an update, the rep stated they could only take my name and information and then I would get a call back from council with status. Since then I have heard nothing. Every question I asked the rep I got a canned statement read back to me, no real information at all.

  2. Sandra says:

Regarding the LG Refrigerator Class Action: I filed all the paperwork and had to refile it. It cost a wad to get the paperwork there in time because of the mail. I have not received anything to say that we are in the lawsuit. Our LG was fixed three times, once replaced the condenser and it is not making ice again and hasn’t for a while–months. So we don’t know if we are going to get anything or not.

  6. Jim Russell says:

My LG jLFXS29 refrigerator just died. RIP 1/10/2022. What now? Am I just stuck because it lasted 5.5 years? Is there recourse? We had been on an extended vacation, so we had to throw out a full refrigerator and freezer of food. Apparently it had died recently, as it didn’t stink yet.

    1. Claudia Holt says:

Same here. Just got back from a 2 wk vacation and lost everything. Supposedly a repair person is coming tomorrow. It was just 3 years old and 1 month! I am not holding my breath. Wish I did not see this site.

  7. vickie RAWLINS says:

  9. Linda Hadley says:

I mailed in my receipts and the claim form for this class-action, instead of doing it online. I got an email that my claim was being denied because of errors in the paperwork. I found that whoever transferred my info made several mistakes such as not putting a date for when the repair man came and how much I paid them. I went in and corrected the info, but have no idea if I will even get a payment now. I lost so much money on my LG refrigerator and the food.

  10. Curious says:

Did you receive a n approval email
