Honda Civic tire wear class action settlement

Honda Motor Co. has reached a class action settlement over claims that some of its vehicles excessively burned oil, causing engine misfiring and premature spark plug degradation. If you purchased a  2008-2012 Honda Accord, 2008-2013 Honda Odyssey, 2009-2013 Honda Pilot, 2010-2011 Honda Accord Crosstour or 2012 Honda Crosstour equipped with a 6-cylinder engine with Variable Cylinder Management (“VCM-2”), you could be eligible to receive compensation for repairs or a warranty extension.

The Honda engine misfire settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit (Soto, et al. v. Honda Motor Co. Inc.) alleging that Honda manufactured more than 1.5 million defective vehicles that excessively burned oil.

Honda has denied the allegations in the class action lawsuit. The parties agree that there are no safety concerns with the vehicles named in the litigation. Honda agreed to the class action settlement in order to avoid the costs of a trial. The proposed class action settlement was preliminarily approved by U.S. District Judge Susan Illston on Oct. 9, 2013.

To receive full compensation for your vehicle repairs, Class Members must submit a valid Claim Form with a copy of an original repair invoice or receipt plus proof of payments for repairs or replacement of parts on a Settlement Class Vehicle by April 10, 2014. Class Members do not need to take any action to obtain the warranty extension, which will cover repairs for the affected vehicles within eight years of the original purchase or lease date of the vehicle, with no mileage limitation.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members of the Honda engine defect class action settlement include all current and former owners or lessees of one or more of the following Honda vehicles equipped with a 6-cylinder engine with Variable Cylinder Management (“VCM-2”), purchased or leased in the United States:

  • 2008-2012 Honda Accord
  • 2008-2013 Honda Odyssey
  • 2009-2013 Honda Pilot
  • 2010-2011 Honda Accord Crosstour
  • 2012 Honda Crosstour

    2014 Honda Accord with major oil consumption. My oil light starts to flash intermittent and I know it’s time to look for an autoparts store. I have to add 2-3 quarts depending how much I drive. I complaint to my Honda dealer but they keep telling me it’s normal for the car to burn oil…I was a Honda tech for 10 years and have owned multiple Hondas but never had this problem. Honda obviously is refusing to fix the problem.

    I agree I’m having problems with my 2010 crosstour. When I search for problems with hondas when I purchased it nothing appeared. I feel they got a slap on the wrist and we pay dearly for it. Is there any other way to recoup losses for the damage.

    We have a 2014 Honda which had to have been built in 2013(we purchased in January 2014). We just now are having engine misfires to the tune of $3300. We just found out about buyers previous experiences and it makes my blood boil to think they are getting away with deceiving the public regarding this vehicle and its problems. What fraud! They are offering us a 15% discount for our trouble. What they ought to be getting is a new class action law suit to show they are still doing business as usual deceiving the public and making a boatload of money in the process! Sad situation.

    Why is it not illegal for a Honda Dealership to sell you a Honda Pilot 2011 if the engine misfire and piston ring/ foul sparkplug and oil burning problem is inevitable for all? I purchased this Model and in Less than 5 months every single problem online HAS actually happened. I have a $12000 balance to pay off this car when the dealer was most likely aware of this. What can I do? I have children, I’m paying double rent for a car that does not work. Isn’t this illegal?? Can Honda do anything for me?

    2011 Honda Pilot misfiring. Was told by dealer too late to repair under warranty even though I bought less than 2 years ago. Paid for spark plugs to be replaced and don’t know how long that will last. Any avenue to get this piston issue addressed?

      I decided to get the car fixed at the dealer since the vehicle was stranded there. The dealer wouldn’t take responsibility. The exhaust valve and piston were fixed. The total was $3200 after negotiating to lower the cost.

    I took my 2010 Pilot to the RSM Honda Dealer yesterday for the exact problem (1 piston ring, cylinder misfire $4700 quote) and told the dealer about your comments, postings of similar issues and the dealer will not help. Did anyone get any your questions answered? If so, can you reply? We haven’t given them an answer to go ahead with the repair.

    I have a 2012 Honda Crosstour and is experiencing flashing engine light, hesitate to drive, some shaking if I drive more than 40 miles. I called the class action hotline and they took my information and told me that I have a warranty until 10/20. And if the issue with the engine is a misfire then I would not have to pay nothing.

I called the class action hotline and they took my information and told me that I have a warranty until 10/20. And if the issue with the engine is a misfire then I would not have to pay nothing.

    I have a 2013 Odyssey. Repaired under warranty less than 1 year ago. Yesterday, I have my first symptom of a repeat of this. I am highly upset, in that, I purchased the car new in June 2013 and records online show that Honda new about this issue BEFORE I purchased the car. You would think that Honda would have a responsibility, once they know of the issue,, to inform prospective purchasers of the issue. I have always LOVED Honda, but now I am very skeptical. It is one thing to find out about an issue after and inform current owners. It is pretty shady to sell it, knowing the issue, but not disclosing it.
