DoorDash fees class action lawsuit overview:
- Who: A Maryland federal judge extended the discovery period for a class action lawsuit against DoorDash Inc.
- Why: Consumers claim DoorDash charges unlawful fees to its users, delivery drivers and restaurant merchants.
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Maryland federal court.
A federal judge in Maryland granted a motion to extend the discovery period for a class action lawsuit against DoorDash claiming the food delivery service charges unlawful fees. The deadline is now Feb. 16.
In a complaint filed against DoorDash last September, a group of consumers claim the company charges fees to its delivery drivers and restaurant merchants that cause consumers to “bear the unsettling burden of the increased cost.”
“Because DoorDash’s hidden fees (which include hidden commission, marketing, sponsored listing and credit card transactions fees) reduce profit margins on food orders, restaurants must increase their prices,” the DoorDash class action states.
The group of consumers claim DoorDash also charges users a variety of misleading and deceptive fees, including so-called “city” fees that “create the illusion for consumers that local governments impose these fees on orders.”
DoorDash charges delivery fees despite not performing deliveries, class action claims
DoorDash charges its users a number of delivery fees despite the company allegedly not conducting the deliveries themselves, the DoorDash class action alleges.
“DoorDash’s fees are deceptive, misleading and otherwise fraudulent. DoorDash promises services that it does not provide, including charging consumers a premium amount for deliveries that DoorDash does not perform,” the DoorDash class action states.
Consumers want to represent a nationwide class of DoorDash users who were “inappropriately and illegally charged” by paying any combination of a delivery fee, express (or priority) delivery fee, extended range delivery fee, marketing fee or commission fee after placing an order on the DoorDash app or website.
The class action lawsuit claims DoorDash is guilty of unjust enrichment, negligent misrepresentation, fraudulent concealment, fraud or deceit and violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, among other things.
The plaintiffs demand a jury trial and request declaratory and injunctive relief along with an award of monetary and treble damages for themselves and all class members.
In JUly 2022, a consumer filed a separate class action lawsuit against DoorDash, arguing the company falsely advertises it charges no delivery fees despite adding fees in the prices of items purchased for delivery.

The plaintiffs are represented by Thomas R. Bundy, III, Leslie J. Bryan, Lovita Tandy and Andrew D. Herman of Lawrence & Bundy LLC.
The DoorDash fees class action lawsuit is Hecox, et al. v. DoorDash Inc., Case No. 1:23-cv-01006, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

That’s why us DoorDash drivers have been getting less tips because they have to pay those fees. People don’t realize we need their tips to help make our pay a little better and just to show appreciation since DoorDash doesn’t. I do understand but even a dollar helps
My wife ordered food totalling 80$ from door dash, the dasher “Garvick” took a picture of the food on the doorstep and then stole the food and went on his way. We have security cam footage and called door dash maybe 8 different times to get the resolution. Door dash has not refunded the money, their fee or offered any compensation; finally today I told door dash I would file fraud charges against the company and he over the phone said he would “notate it” maybe this company doesn’t care about their employees or my bad contractors behavior and on top of that; I pay them to steal from me lol
DoorDash has been charging me and other family members for dash pass though none of us ever signed up and they refuse to refund moneys I called and complained to just get rudely hung up on
Something needs to be done about this
I received the wrong order, and they still refuse to refund me, reimburse me of my money. I have tried over three times now and every time they denied my request.
They just tried to deliver me someone else’s order and then took it back said sorry they didn’t have mine. So I have received no food! And now they have 3 times denied my refund. I have screens pics of the dasher saying sorry about messing up. I have cameras in my driveway that recorded the whole thing and still after calling support 2 times, they still refuse to give me a refund. This is attempt 3 and I will continue till they refund me. Charging me for goods and services not rendered is theft!
This would be my second time having problems with receiving the right order from doordash. Each time it was not my order and the orders that they sent me was another person I believe to be less in cost because, this last incident I had a large pizza build it yourself came the $22.38.38 and I got a small pizza half pepperoni and 1/2 with black olives. It was a slap in my face when they sent me a message telling me I was not eligible for a refund, well okay give me a store credit they didn’t give me anything
Can I be added to the class action suit? Please add me
I’ve been a Doordash DashPass customer for several months in Maryland and the fees are still way too high add me please thanks.
I’m continually having to reach out to the HELP on DoorDash to have the delivery fees removed because they don’t acknowledge the Chase United Club Card benefit I have of a doordash pass. After every order I have to reach out to them and make the same argument about my delivery fee charge. It’s very annoying.
They’re always slick when making it right and putting these time limits, but we all know it happened to all of us for years. And then they only want to give you $20 after the hundreds and thousands that lost. Why should we have to sign up for something that globally happened when it should automatically see it in the loss of data that they steal and hoard from us? You know what you did and who you did it too. It’s in the system.
I have been paying over 4k a month for DoorDash, and what I noticed is I was being charged for monthly DoorDash pass, and being charged for using the DoorDash too frequently. DoorDash also raised the prices compared to what the true prices were in the store. I have all the receipt to prove the transactions. I would say, I may be the highest spending customer for DoorDash, and I feel they jibbed me and my family.
I am in Nebraska. I take a screen shot of every delivery that I accept. I have been doing this for one month. In that month. They have not paid me for over $275 worth of deliveries. I have a 5 star rating and 100% delivery rank. I have made over 50 phone calls to their offshore call center. No relief. The US based recruiter that I used to contact during my training. Well. That phone number is now disconnected. I have tried to reach out to their San Francisco corporate number. That doesn’t exist anymore. I’d be curious how many millions of dollars they owe to delivery drivers due to their criminal accounting practices.
