DoorDash fees class action lawsuit overview:
- Who: A Maryland federal judge extended the discovery period for a class action lawsuit against DoorDash Inc.
- Why: Consumers claim DoorDash charges unlawful fees to its users, delivery drivers and restaurant merchants.
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Maryland federal court.
A federal judge in Maryland granted a motion to extend the discovery period for a class action lawsuit against DoorDash claiming the food delivery service charges unlawful fees. The deadline is now Feb. 16.
In a complaint filed against DoorDash last September, a group of consumers claim the company charges fees to its delivery drivers and restaurant merchants that cause consumers to “bear the unsettling burden of the increased cost.”
“Because DoorDash’s hidden fees (which include hidden commission, marketing, sponsored listing and credit card transactions fees) reduce profit margins on food orders, restaurants must increase their prices,” the DoorDash class action states.
The group of consumers claim DoorDash also charges users a variety of misleading and deceptive fees, including so-called “city” fees that “create the illusion for consumers that local governments impose these fees on orders.”
DoorDash charges delivery fees despite not performing deliveries, class action claims
DoorDash charges its users a number of delivery fees despite the company allegedly not conducting the deliveries themselves, the DoorDash class action alleges.
“DoorDash’s fees are deceptive, misleading and otherwise fraudulent. DoorDash promises services that it does not provide, including charging consumers a premium amount for deliveries that DoorDash does not perform,” the DoorDash class action states.
Consumers want to represent a nationwide class of DoorDash users who were “inappropriately and illegally charged” by paying any combination of a delivery fee, express (or priority) delivery fee, extended range delivery fee, marketing fee or commission fee after placing an order on the DoorDash app or website.
The class action lawsuit claims DoorDash is guilty of unjust enrichment, negligent misrepresentation, fraudulent concealment, fraud or deceit and violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, among other things.
The plaintiffs demand a jury trial and request declaratory and injunctive relief along with an award of monetary and treble damages for themselves and all class members.
In JUly 2022, a consumer filed a separate class action lawsuit against DoorDash, arguing the company falsely advertises it charges no delivery fees despite adding fees in the prices of items purchased for delivery.

The DoorDash fees class action lawsuit is Hecox, et al. v. DoorDash Inc., Case No. 1:23-cv-01006, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

I just did a fake door dash order. When I use doordash, I usually choose stores that charge no more than $1 delivery fee and/or there is a special deal offered because I know sometimes the fees can double the cost of the order. This time my order was from a grocery store and the order was $92, $0 delivery fee, and other service fees: “Service Fee: US$ 7.99
This 15.0% service fee helps us operate DoorDash. There is a minimum of US$ 4.49 and a maximum of US$ 7.99 for service fees on each order.
Estimated Tax: US$ 0.60
Finalized tax will be shown on your order receipt.”
This added $7.99 just for a service fee.
I don’t have door dash membership and no tip was added to order. The service fee alone is almost 10% of the order. Its ridiculous! Then again, it is not cheap to operate a company like this. I’m torn. I love the convenience of getting food delivery. 🙂
I was charged the same extra fees. Also wss charged for a delivery that DD deliverd to the wrong house. Called DD for a refund and they denied it. Basically accusing me of lying and being dishonest when I had proof of my house and proof of the pic they sent me of the wrong house they delivered. I asked for an email to send them pics and they said they don’t have email..my claim was denied. Not sure how that’s legal to charge but not provide a service

I am charged door dash fees and they never are the same amount from each venue.
I am charged delivery fees plus other nonspecified fees every single time, my food order might be 20.00, by the time they add their fees it usually comes out to 40.00.. it got to where I don’t use any food delivery service anymore. The charges are outrageous.
I have found the charges to be so much that I have $9 left on a DoorDash card and have found that it isn’t worth it to use it.
I have experienced the same thing.
I don’t understand why they are even getting a discovery extension. All you have to do to see it is flip from delivery to pickup and you see the prices change plain as day we’re not solving a rubiks cube here people…🤷🏿♂️
Everytime I order
Definitely add me. Even though you sign up for the premium program with “no delivery” fees, you still end up $20-25 in other fees and tips.
Here in Illinois(LaSalle/Peru) its ridiculous how much it cost to get a couple things from any restaurant!! They really are taking advantage of their customers!!
