KitchenAid mixer class action settlementA federal class action lawsuit filed in New York claims Whirlpool KitchenAid self-cleaning ovens not only break in as little as two cleaning cycles, but that using the self-cleaning cycle five or six times “damages the ovens beyond repair.”

According to the Whirlpool KitchenAid class action lawsuit, “The Ovens feature a self-cleaning capability that, upon the first or second use, damages the control panel as a result of excessive heat, requiring costly repairs in order to begin reusing the Oven. After the fifth or sixth use of the self-cleaning cycle, the heat from the self-cleaning cycle damages the control panel beyond repair.”

Whirlpool sells these defective KitchenAid self-cleaning ovens at major U.S. retailers, including Home Depot, Sears and P.C. Richard & Sons, with a one-year factory warranty for parts and labor and a five-year warranty for specified parts if they become defective because of workmanship. These warranties are virtually useless, the class action lawsuit claims, because “the damage resulting from the self-cleaning cycle is not covered by the 5-year warranty” and “consumers often do not use the self-cleaning feature during the first year, since the Oven has not yet been heavily used and dirtied.”

The KitchenAid class action lawsuit claims Whirlpool knew about the serious nature of the defective KitchenAid self-cleaning ovens that required costly repairs and ultimately result in the destruction of the oven, yet continued to sell the ovens. Numerous customers have alerted Whirlpool about the problems with the KitchenAid self-cleaning cycle, yet “to this day, [Whirlpool] continues to conceal material information from users, consumer, and the public.”

The Whirlpool KitchenAid class action lawsuit is brought on behalf anyone who purchased a KitchenAid self-cleaning oven on or after June 3, 2008 at retail price for personal use in the State of New York. It is seeking class certification, refunds to class members, compensatory and other damages, and an order requiring Whirlpool to immediately cease its wrongful conduct and enjoin it from continuing to conceal the defect.

I would like to join a class action suite if one exists. We purchased modelkdrp407hss4 in 2003. We purchased the extended support contract and have been renewing it every five years. This oven is a piece of junk. The oven temperature never regulates perfectly. We had the controller replaced about 4 times now. The self cleaning mode turns on automatically. The first time it happened we were cooking potatoes. We had no clue that the oven automatically switched. Our whole house filled with smoke the only way to shut it off was to turn off the power. We had A&E service come out and they replaced the controller. It happened again and the came out and replaced it again. Then the oven decided to stop working altogether. Finally after multiple services they replaced the controller again. A fuse. That didn’t work. So called service again and the replaced the relay on the back of the unit. Now we are having issues again with the controller. It won’t let us turn the heat up or down. And we can’t even use the timer. We are fed up wi kitchen aide and will never purchase another one. Oh by he way we have had issues with our architect series dishwasher. And our refrigerator kssc48fjs00. Thank god we have our service contracts.

I just bought my 10 year old house. My Kitchenaid Superba self cleaning gas oven is a disaster waiting to happen. Ive already replaced the glass door after it exploded. I wont use the self cleaning feature. When we pulled it away from the wall, the wall looked burnt. Please let me know when I can file a lawsuit. I have all Kitcheaid appliances. The microwave already died and had to be replaced. My Kitchenaid refrig leaks so I cant use the ice-maker.

I too have a double wall oven, owned less than 10 months purchased from Sears. Ran the self clean cycle for the second time last night and no power. I am very interested in knowing how to join a class action lawsuit. I would like my $2700 back.

Bought a Whirlpool Gold slide-in self cleaning oven fall of 2010 from a big box store. Looks great ran great, UNTIL we self cleaned. After that, the oven ONLY could be set for 177, 350 or 410 degrees, It wouldn’t successfully enter any other numbers. That lasted 1 year. Now we havea gas stove top that works & a completely dead oven in a $1200. 4 & 1/2 year old product from Whirlpool. If we cant get into the class action & get some resolution, we will NEVER buy another item from Whirlpool & hope that we can notify as many people as possible to absolve themselves of such a poor company that cares ONLY about getting money from customers & NOT their continued satisfaction with their product. Please do NOT buy Whirlpool. Another Extremely dissatisfied customer of Whirlpool Gold appliances.

  8. Larry Rowles says:

Had the same or similar problem mentioned the all the comments above with an oven we bought from IKEA May 2014. What is the current status of the lawsuit and how do we join the lawsuit as we are in Colorado.

  9. Angela McIntyre says:

I purchased Whirlpool because it claims to be American Made, in July of 2014. 4 repairs later, resulting in 7 visits, on the self cleaning ovens and today Im waiting for additional new parts, and the lower oven does not work. They told me the unit needs to be declared non-repairable. It clearly is not repairable, by the certified repair men that Whirlpool scheduled. So, where do I sign up?
