Verisma Systems medical record fees $4.9M class action settlement

Consumers can benefit from a $4.9 million Verisma Systems settlement reached to resolve claims the company charged excessive fees for medical records.

The settlement benefits individuals or entities who requested their own or another person’s medical records and who were charged and paid certification or retrieval fees after July 1, 2011.

Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim Verisma Systems charged excessive fees that violated Wisconsin laws. Verisma Systems allegedly charged fees on behalf of various medical providers, such as Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, St. Joseph’s Community Hospital of West Bend, Community Memorial Hospital of Menomonee Falls and more.

Verisma Systems is a medical solutions company that provides release of information, care coordination and audit management services.

Under the terms of the Verisma Systems settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the amount they paid in certification or retrieval fees and the dates of their invoices. 

For invoices dated between July 1, 2011, and Nov. 30, 2015, class members can receive 4.5 times the Verisma Systems fees they paid. For invoices dated between Dec. 1, 2015, and May 3, 2017, class members can receive an amount equal to the Verisma fees they paid. For invoices dated on or after May 4, 2017, class members can receive 6.25 times the Verisma Systems fees they paid.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is June 21, 2024.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Aug. 15, 2024.

To receive Verisma Systems settlement payments, class members must submit a valid claim form by June 21, 2024.
