Weather Shield Defective Product Class Actions

Weather ShieldIf you own a commercial or residential property that has Weather Shield windows or doors installed, you may want to follow the progress of the two following class action lawsuits over alleged defects.

The first class action lawsuit, Pagano, et. Al. v. Weather Shield Manufacturing, Inc., alleges Weather Shield’s “Visions 2000” vinyl horizontal sliding windows are defective. The lawsuit claims these alleged defects have either caused the windows to fail and cause damage or will, to a substantial certainty, cause them to fail in the future and cause damage to the home or building they are installed. The California Weather Shield class action lawsuit has been in litigation since March 2008 and was granted certification last week for a California statewide class of individuals who own homes or buildings that have Weather Shield Visions 2000 windows installed.

The second class action lawsuit, Gavron v. Weather Shield Mfg., Inc et al, was filed June 25, 2010 in the Southern District of Florida. The Florida class action lawsuit alleges Weather Shield’s LifeGuard Legacy windows and doors contain defects that include, but are not limited to, defective weather-stripping that allows water to penetrate the window’s frame and into the wall and interior of the home, causing damage such as rotting, delaminating, glass distortion and general deterioration of the doors and windows. The Florida Weather Shield class action is brought on behalf of all Florida residents who own or owned property that have or had Weather Shield LifeGuard Legacy windows and doors installed.

Both the California and Florida class action lawsuits against Weather Shield are seeking punitive damages, restitution and refunds for class members. Weather Shield is a Wisconsin-based manufacturer of window and door system products for the residential and commercial building industry worldwide.

I have aluminum clad Weathershield installed approximately 10/2009. My door wells (2 four panel)have rotted and I have leaky windows. Weather Shield has previously replaced them but again they are rotted. Please advise if you can help.

  2. Jim everson says:

I had weathershield windows installed in 1992, I don’t know which line but the stickers said Zoe shield on them, it’s 2020 and they all still look new, one picture window had to get replaced due to a rock being thrown from the lawnmower which cracked it and it fogged up. One smaller more frequently used window the latch broke. My biggest complaint was my patio door, it let a lot of cold air in, the latch broke in the first year and at 6 years the seal failed. Gave them the benefit of the doubt and got a new one that was supposed to be higher quality, 22 years and it’s fine. The guy that replaced it was impressed with the rest of the Windows and stated that most window failures were from faulty installation and rough handling of windows from pick up to installation. The reason I went with weathershield was because in 1982 Hurd windows were installed, they were all wood and nearly everyone had failed by 1990, I went with the plastic weathershield windows because I figured I’d have to replace them every ten years and plastic was cheaper, I wish now I’d have gone with wood as wood looks nicer. I think it’s important to check out the contractor and don’t go with the cheapest quote.

  3. Mike says:

Also have had a high percentage of windows on south facing side of house fail. Built in 1999 with Vision 2000. They replaced some free of charge in ’08. Paid 1/2 price in ’16. And now, just before warranty ends was able to get quote for 1/2 off in ’19. Local glass company also offers this replacement glass at the same price. So much for 1/2 off warranty.

AS of 5-10-17 ; Has anybody won any reimbursement for bad weather shield Visions 2000 windows and Vision 2000 patio doors???

  5. Kim says:

My husband and I finished building our home in 1999. We had Weathershield windows installed. The seals started breaking probably two years later. We waited to see if more seals would break. In 2006 we ended up replacing at least half of the windows, which, at the time, were covered under warranty. Since then, a number of windows, including the replacement windows, have had seal breakage. In addition to the seal breakage, other parts of the window are deteriorating and will require repair. Weathershield is one of the worst windows on the market. If we ever build another home, we will not be using Weathershield. Good luck to everyone with your window issues. I’m contemplating replacement with a better brand of window.

I had all new Weathershield windows put in my house four years ago and from the first year it has been leaking in the air is been coming in and I called Weathershield took me a long time before they even got back to me they sent somebody out and they did all this stuff and I’m still having terrible problems anybody else having problems with wet Weathershield getting back to them

  7. pj Loparch says:

All windows on the South facing side of house failed.
Weather Shield refused to honor warranty because I am the 2nd owner of the house.
Their product is inferior to others on the market.

  8. Chris says:

Looking for help also! Legacy series installed in 2001.Severe home damages from leaking picture window, all windows have problems ,all double hungs have seal failure, lifting balance are all breaking plastic or cords and every knife point tilt is bent.. Frustrated . These were purchased as premium windows. 24 plus windows.

  9. jack kriesel says:

We have been fighting seal failures (32+) for the past 9 years in our Legacy Series casement windows, transom and doors…products are ~11 years old. In other homes we have had Peachtree, Kolbe, and Anderson windows and all totaled maybe 5 have failed. Weathershield has been totally unresponsive which appears to be there mode of “customer service.” Are there any class action suits addressing this issue?

  10. Tom says:

Having similar leaking issues with Acclaim Wethershield (Crestline) casement style windows installed 62 of them 2 years ago. Company admitted, problems they made a defective window. After considerable pressure from Menards, they agreed to replace the sash window themselves (sash only). However now the frames are rotting out… also had to restain and seal windows on my dime where is the class action?
