Verizon Landline Third-Party Billing Class Action Settlement

By Kimberly Mirando

Verizon

Verizon has reached a class action lawsuit settlement over allegations it illegally billed landline phone customers for third-party charges. If you were billed for one of these charges, you may be entitled to either a $40 flat payment or a 100% refund of the unauthorized charges you paid.

The Verizon third-party billing settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, entitled Moore, et al. v. Verizon, et al., alleging that Verizon billed its landline customers for charges from third-party companies that were not authorized by the customer (a practice known as “cramming”), in violation of federal and state law.

Verizon denies any wrongdoing, but has agreed to settle the class action lawsuit to avoid ongoing litigation.

The Verizon third-party billing class action lawsuit settlement covers all Verizon landline customers nationwide (including individuals, businesses and local governmental entities) who were billed for third-party charges from April 27, 2005 through February 28, 2012.

Class Members will be able to recover 100% of all money they paid in unauthorized third-party charges during that period by submitting a “Full Payment Claim” or recover a refund of $40 by submitting a “Flat Payment Claim.” Both forms will be available at www.verizonthirdpartybillingsettlement.com and must be submitted by November 15, 2012. There is no dollar cap on the monetary recovery to be paid under the Settlement.

Some Settlement Class Members may have a claim for hundreds or thousands of dollars in refunds from the Verizon third-party billing class action settlement. That’s why it’s important that Verizon landline customers take advantage of one of the benefits available to them under the class action lawsuit settlement, which provides a free summary of all third-party charges they incurred. You can request this summery here or by calling the Settlement Administrator at (877) 772-6219.

Claim forms and more information on your rights in the Verizon Landline Third-Party Billing Class Action Lawsuit Settlement can be found at www.verizonthirdpartybillingsettlement.com. You can also find detailed instructions for how to file a claim in our Open Lawsuit Settlements section.

Like Rhonda, I made 2 requests to verizon for my 3rd party charges but I have yet to receive so much as an acknowledgement from them. I’m wondering if this is a delay tactic on Verizon’s part until the deadline date so that customers will either rush and request the $40 flat fee (even though they may be entitled to a higher refund) or miss the dealine altogether. I know for a fact they have allowed cramming on my bill because I havbe questioned ALL of those mysterious charges on my phone bill but the explainations were mind boggling, to say the least, but I did get them to stop one of the charges (probably the cramming) and now that I have a clearer understanding of just what they were doing, I, like all the others, with the exception of maybe one, (and you know who you are) want retroactive reimbursement of every penny of these illegal charges. Has anyone out there been successful in getting a response from verizon regarding the total amount of these charges? Thanks so much!

Reading these comments I have realized that the majority of people that are posting here are completely ignorant. The article TELLS YOU HOW find out how much you’re owed, But obviously you stopped reading right after the mention of money you MAY be owed. The guy who said that he wants his internet payments refunded was the stupidest one here. Most of you don’t even know what third party charges are, yet you sign your name to a contract and pay your bill for years. Another person said if you want internet and cells etc. you have to bend over and take the corruption up your keester. Say WHAT?! There in lies the problem in this world…a little bit of corruption has to be tolerated…Let me guess you all watch Swamp people alligator snuff films and know all of the charactors names.

I requested a summary of charges at least a month ago. I have received nothing. Just made a second request for these charges.

Finally they got caught. The entire company and its subsidiaries should be investigated as they cheat wherever they can get away with it. I have never had the same bill two months in a row and it is always higher. They are as crooked as any thief on the street only worse. They
pry on unknowing individuals. The poor, the illiterate as well as the prosperous who don’t have time for mundane things like a few extra pennies.

I lost the postcard that said I would get $40 back or more if I cold prove more was coming to me. I also noted that you need a pin number. Well since I know longer have the postcard (it looked like junk mail and someone at my home threw it out), I’d like you to send me another one. I’d also like all my statements reviewed by Verizon. If not I want them to send me all my statements and tell me how to find the figures I should not have been paying. I want them to come up with an accurate amount, that’s only fair.
