TransUnionTop Class Actions readers are reporting that their settlement checks for the TransUnion Credit Report Class Action Lawsuit Settlement have arrived, and the payout is much larger than promised!

The TransUnion credit report settlement resolves a 2009 class action lawsuit, titled Wang v. Asset Acceptance, LLC, that alleged TransUnion issued credit reports containing inaccurate information about disputed debts. Class Members that had such a report submitted by TransUnion to a third-party between June 22, 2009 and October 15, 2009 had until March 2, 2012 to file a Claim Form to receive free credit monitoring and up to $100 in cash.

However, several Top Class Actions readers are reporting their settlement payout is nearly 50% more than the estimated $100 reward. This is probably because not all Class Members of the TransUnion Credit Report Settlement submitted Claim Forms.

I received this check today as well. I will go to the CU tomorrow and find out if it is legit or not. I do know if you dial the 866-416-3470 number found in the letter accompanying the check, you get a lot of detail on the legitimacy of the settlement and a host of other options by pressing various numbers when told to do so. Here is the website that is on the recording to also find more information.

Got 3 checks for 3 family members. All the same as above. However, I don’t remember applying for this.

To top it off, my son who has lived in Japan for the last 7 years got a check. He did not apply for this class-action. He has a U.S. – based credit card and DOE loans. All I’ve ever done for him via TransUnion is run a credit check occasionally to see if anyone has stolen his ID.

Rec’d mine yesterday. $25.80. It says For Deposit Only. What the hell is Huntington Bank? Never heard of it. I don’t know if this is real or a scram. Don’t want to deposit into my account.

      1. repooh says:

Huntington Bank has been in FL for quite awhile. No fear. They are a real bank but have been bought out by others in some parts of FL.

      2. S Smith says:

I agree with you Jen. I’m leery of depositing this into my account as well.

  3. Faye says:

I received a check for 25.80 after having my credit information sold and waiting years for this to finally be over! I got in at the beginning of this lawsuit and out of all that money awarded this is the best they could do? That total bull sh.t. This is not OVER because this is not justice! I’m going to contact the attorney general’s office and Saunders and Doyle the litigation attorneys to see did they take everyone’s portion!

    1. Sharon P says:

My check was also only $25.80. I got it yesterday

    2. S Smith says:

You know the attorneys get more than their fair share that’s why they are so eager to get these lawsuits started. They are not the benevolent people they portray themselves to be.

    3. Bill says:

You have to remember that the settlement funds were to be distributed to literally millions upon millions of people that had credit cards, loans etc that were carried on Transunion data bank. The court ruling allocated % that could be used for attorney fees, court costs. You also have to recall that this class action suit combined numerous individual suits filed in six or seven states. In many instances the Plaintiffs in these cases filed suits because they suffered severe damage to their credit or were unable to secures loans or otherwised damaged in terms of $$$. They most likely received large $$ settlements. All most people did was simply fill out a form that entilted them to a piece of the settlement…if it ever materiailzed. . Filling out the short form took about 30 seconds…earned $25.80…not a bad return for my time!

  4. Angie... says:

    I got $25 today lol

  5. tonya says:

my husband went to Huntington bank and cashed it without a problem

  6. Marie says:

Both my husband and I received checks. After much research I found an old email from 2009 I received regarding this class action suit. Contacted Huntington National Bank and although they were not helpful they would only confirm that the funds ($25.80) were available at that time. Have sent an inquiry to my states Attorney Generals office and they needed more info which I sent this morning. Pretty sad we have gotten to the point where everyone is leery – but when I received a letter from IRS informing me that my name was on the list of those hacked this fall — I have lost faith. Even the government(IRS) can’t protect my information) – I feel helpless and cynical…. Am going top bank to find out if they can assist. Yes it is only for $25.80 but being out of work for 6 years (I live in a rural area) that money is 1/4 tank gas….

  7. Terry says:

I looked up for deposit only, that is put on checks to keep someone else from getting your mail and then signing and cashing you check. Google it for your self, I got 25.80 also and wondered about For deposit only too. I also looked up the routing code on check, it is the Huntington National Bank Routing Number. Hope this help.

  8. Sharon says:

Each family member received a check for $25.80 several days ago. Just noticed the “For Deposit Only” on the front, too. What’s up with that?

  9. bonnie says:

I got my check on 7/29/2014 for 25.80. Going to take it to my bank and have them put a hold on it until they see if it is legit.

  10. Linda says:

Re: Bob’s comment above. I too received my check 7/28/14 in the amount of $25.80 from Transunion on the settlement matter. I hope there is another payout.
