Pepsi Bottling Ventures LLC suffered a data breach in December that exposed personally identifying and financial information of either the company’s customers or employees.
The data breach was disclosed in a security incident notice filed with Montana’s Attorney General’s Office.
Pepsi Bottling Ventures, the nation’s largest bottler of Pepsi-Cola products, revealed it was informed on Jan. 10 of unauthorized activity being reported on some of its internal IT systems, with a subsequent investigation determining the December incident.
“Based on our preliminary investigation, an unknown party accessed (our internal IT systems) on or around December 23, 2022, installed malware, and downloaded certain information contained on the accessed IT systems,” Pepsi Bottling Ventures said.
Pepsi Bottling Ventures said it took “prompt action” to contain the data breach upon its discovery, with the company noting that the last known date of unauthorized access came on Jan. 19.
Data breach exposed personal, financial information, says Pepsi Bottling Ventures
The company’s investigation determined the data breach exposed full names, home addresses, financial account information, state and federal government ID numbers and driver’s license numbers, and Social Security Numbers, among other things.
Pepsi Bottling Ventures said it has implemented more security measures for its network in the wake of the data breach and has reset all company passwords.
The company — which said it has informed law enforcement about the data breach — is offering individuals who receive a data breach notice a free year of identity protection services with Kroll, as a precautionary measure.
Pepsi Bottling Ventures said it does not know at this time how many individuals were impacted by the data breach, in addition to whether those affected were customers or employees of the company.
In a separate case, Pepsi previously agreed to pay $12.75 million to resolve claims the company failed to pay its workers all of their wages during a data breach of Kronos’ payroll systems.

Not sure if I was affected or not. How do we know?
I was there for four weeks when they perp-walked me out the door. 6 years later I get their Oops letter about my info being on the dark web. If you are looking for a “lead-plaintive “ (or whatever the law shows call it), look no further.
