A patient who allegedly developed gadolinium deposition disease following an MRI has initiated a lawsuit.
The plaintiff, Tiffani H., has lodged the gadolinium deposition disease lawsuit against Bracco Diagnostics Inc. According to the lawsuit, the diagnosis of gadolinium deposition disease is extremely problematic for patients because it is a painful and incurable disease.
Tiffani claims only those patients or people who have retained gadolinium inside their body can develop gadolinium deposition disease (GDD). When a patient is not aware of the GDD exposure risk, they might not notice the symptoms until the situation has become severe.
The lawsuit says that Tiffani H. contracted GDD due to receiving MRAs and MRIs with intravenous injections of contrast agents filled with gadolinium. These contrast agents were known as Multi Hance.
As explained in the gadolinium deposition disease lawsuit, the plaintiff claims to have maintained normally functioning kidneys prior to developing this diagnosis. This is important, because the drug maker allegedly only warned of complications in those with kidney problems, according to the gadolinium lawsuit.
Some of the plaintiff’s symptoms of GDD include fatigue, tremors, violent shaking, painful movement, inflammation, weakness, confusion, a burning sensation, and low body temperature.
Gadolinium Deposition Disease
Gadolinium inside the body, according to the lawsuit, can cause a range of different health problems due to the toxicity of those agents. The plaintiff argues that patients are led to believe that these agents will not remain inside their body following an MRI procedure and therefore they have no reason to watch out for problems associated with medical conditions like GDD. By the time a patient is diagnosed with GDD, argues the plaintiff, it is too late for them to reverse the diagnosis.
While it’s not a condition that’s widely recognized by the medical community, gadolinium deposition disease may reportedly develop in someone who has near normal or normal renal function. Such a patient may develop persistent symptoms that arise or even months after the administration of gadolinium-based contrast agent, such as Multi Hance.
According to the gadolinium lawsuit, the plaintiff’s GDD symptoms were not related to a subsequently developed illness or pre-existing disease. Tiffany alleges people who are suffering from this diagnosis might experience symptoms that are consistent with retained gadolinium and its known toxic effects on the human body.
Some of the most common problems reported in conjunction with GDD include clouded mental activity, persistent headaches, and joint and bone pain. The patient’s soft tissue can also thicken in what appears to be a rubbery or spongy texture. Ligaments and tendons can be painful and also have a thickened appearance.
