NorvascMen and women with low to moderate coronary artery disease often have problems controlling their blood pressure as the heart tries to pump more blood to deal with the condition. People who take the anti-hypertensive medication Norvasc may be at risk for Stevens Johnson Syndrome, a reaction to medication that can prove lethal for some.

It is unclear why the drug, which is also used to treat angina, can cause the Stevens Johnson Syndrome, but those who are diagnosed with the autoimmune condition can face serious problems. In Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS), the body attacks itself, and specifically the mucus membranes including the eyes and portions of the skin. In extreme cases, Norvasc side effects can lead to toxic epidermal necrolysis, where significant percentages of the skin die off and patients require grafts to repair the damage.

The syndromes most often occur as Norvasc side effects when a patient takes a new dosage or begins taking the medication for the first time. Men and women who have been diagnosed with severe coronary artery disease should also be wary at those times for the potential of a heart attack or worsening angina in patients. Even if those complications do not occur, swelling occurs in more than 8 percent of patients who take Norvasc, and may result in nerve damage depending on the severity.

Patients who are looking to avoid the progression of Stevens Johnson Syndrome should know the warning signs of the condition. While a rash on the extremities may represent an otherwise innocuous condition, the combination of that and flu-like symptoms of fever and chills could mean that there is a problem. As SJS progresses, there will be inflammation of the throat and potentially lesions. As with any potential adverse event, it is important for patients to discuss symptoms of any possible Norvasc side effects with their doctors.

Those who were unaware of the possibility of these autoimmune disorders may want to consider consulting with an SJS lawsuit lawyer. An experienced attorney can help side effects victims establish whether or not they are eligible to pursue damages. A free case review with one is available to those who visit the Stevens Johnson (SJS) & Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN) Class Action Lawsuit Investigation and fill out the submission form there. Recovering from these syndromes can take years and limit one’s ability to work or enjoy a decent quality of life. Don’t delay any legal remedy your case may merit and get a free consultation with an SJS lawsuit lawyer today.

i was on Amlodapine 5 mg for 4 years. Started having ankle and foot swelling. Constant uti’s multiple times a year. Low white cells like my body could not fight infections. Then I noticed my labs. My red blood cell count was higher than normal. Low platelets and trouble with bruising. Problem with double vision. Again no answers from multiple Doc I had gone to. Nobody suspected this drug. My red cells are all smaller than they should be as if I am anemic? Stomach issues for like 2 years. So 2 weeks ago I totally stopped this drug. It has affected my blood, eyes, stomach, teeth, muscle spasms and more. Horrible stuff. They should not be able to market this stuff ! How can we stop them?

this year on May 2018 , 14 month later, the same event happen I want to the emergency room stay in the hospital for 10 days I have to do almost the same procedures no surgery at this time lost half of my blood , the bleeding once again stop without explanation the doctors again where dumbfounded , each time I was taking amlodipine , during both of my stay at the hospital I stop taking it, strangely enough the bleeding stop too !
after ready a researching the chemical N-nitrosoditheylamine find in several blood pressure Med. I find out that this chemical side effect included GI hemorrhage !! 88 claims later and half million dollar in medical bills lost of income ect.. I still have no direct answers , when i mention to several doctors that just maybe my blood pressure medication had something to do with my GI bleeding they dismissed me completely ….

  4. Mary E Johnson says:

I was taking Amlodipine (Norvasc) for well over 10 years. I realized approximately 3 years ago that it was causing digestive discomfort to the point that several times I thought I was experiencing a heart attack. The discomfort was primarily on my left side under my breast. This caused constant anxiety so sleeping was very uncomfortable. After discontinuing the Amlodipine, the discomfort subsided but it took almost a year to clear up my digestive tract. I decided to discontinue taking it when I could only eat or tolerate very little food.

  5. Joyce Sumner Massenburg says:

I took norvasc for a while several years ago and had to stop. It caused my hands and legs to swell. It caused me to have headaches. It caused me to see double. It caused bruises on parts of my body. I also had extreme fatigue and tirednes. It brought my blood pressure down very little.

  6. Stvster says:

Amlodipine causes thrombocytopenia, which is low blood platelets. Normally a person should have between 150,000 to 450,000 blood platelets in a micro litre of blood. This drug causes the platelets to lower below to a very dangerous level of low platelets in your blood that if one was to have a serious bleed internally can be life threatening. If you experience bruising on your body and don’t remember ever bumping into something to cause the bruise you are experiencing purpuria which is a side effect of thrombocytopenia.

  7. Julian Clinton says:

Had been on prescribed Norvasc for many years, until a week ago, when my doctor told me i no longer need it, due to the effectiveness of my other blood pressure meds. Have now been told my heartrate is FAR BELOW the baseline average of persons on hypertension meds. Wondering if the Amlodipine could be the cause?

    1. Top Class Actions says:

You should consult with a medical professional to get your questions answered. Good luck!

I have been taking Norvasc for over ten tears now and I have been dealing with regular headaches, shingles like symptoms and rampant gum disease. I never thought that these could be caused by my blood pressure medication until my dentist told me. Please contact me through e-mail about any possible recourse. I am going to lose several teeth because I cant afford the surgery to save them.
