General Motors has issued a recall for certain 2018 and 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks due to potential airbag inflator issues.
The issue involves the roof rail airbag inflators, which may have end caps that detach during deployment, or sidewalls that rupture, posing a risk of injury to vehicle occupants.
The defect is attributed to manufacturing issues by supplier Joyson Safety Systems, including potential cracks in the inflator canister and residual water from the washing process, which can accelerate stress corrosion cracking.
The recall affects models ranging from the Chevy Silverado and Sierra 1500 to the 3500 series and is an expansion of a previous recall issued in March 2026.
The original notice applied to 2,819 vehicles nationwide, while the latest update brings another 2,785 vehicles into the campaign. To address the issue, the company plans to install newly manufactured airbag units that were not produced during the timeframe linked to the suspected problem.

General Motors says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Currently, GM is facing a lawsuit alleging its recall of certain vehicles equipped with defective 6.2-liter V8 EcoTec3 L87 engines was inadequate.
