Glucosamine Supplement Class Action Settlement

By Mike Holter

Osteo Bi-FlexSeveral companies that manufacture and sell joint health supplements containing glucosamine and/or chondroitin have reached a $2 million class action lawsuit settlement over allegations they lied about the health benefits of their products.

If you purchased a joint health supplement containing glucosamine from Rexall Sundown Inc., NBTY Inc. or their affiliates, you may be eligible to claim up to $50 cash from the class action settlement. Dozens of glucosamine and/or chondroitin supplements are covered by the settlement, including those sold under the CVS, Equate, Equaline, Kirkland, Kroger, Osteo Bi-Flex, Safeway, Target and Walgreens brand names.

The glucosamine settlement will resolve numerous class action lawsuits filed since 2011 that accuse the defendants of making false, deceptive and misleading labeling claims about the benefits of glucosamine and/or chondroitin.

Rexall denies all allegations of wrongdoing or liability and stands by its glucosamine products and their efficacy, but has agreed to a $2 million class action lawsuit settlement to end the litigation.

Class Members of the glucosamine supplement settlement include all U.S. consumers who purchased for personal use certain joint health dietary supplements sold under the following brand names between 2005 and 2013:

Class Members that submit a valid Claim Form postmarked or submitted online by December 3, 2013 will be eligible to receive a cash payment of $5 per bottle purchased, up to a maximum of 10 ($50), with Proof of Purchase. Adequate proof includes a cash register receipt, an intact box or bottle that clearly displays a readable UPC code and lot number, or similar documentation that identifies the Covered Product and date and location of purchase.

If you can’t provide Proof of Purchase, you can still submit a claim under penalty of perjury confirming your purchase and receive $3 per bottle purchased, up to a maximum of 4 bottles ($12).

Your refund may be more or less, depending on how many valid claims are filed.

I took glucosamine and condroitinfor years and years about 25 total and now I need bilateral knee replacemants so much for that

  2. Brenda Grimes says:

    The upload button doesn”t wwork…..

  3. karen k says:

Who saves old receipts and who saves old empty bottles? They know no one does so the best we can get back is $12. Is it even worth it? I have signed up for I don’t know how many lawsuits on products I have bought and have got one check in two years, and that was suppose to be 2 checks so they jipped me out of one

  4. Charles R. says:

Why isn’t Schiff Move Free included in this settlement. It is sold in Walmart and every drug chain and has been out since glucasomine has been touted as an arthritis aid. I’ve been taking it for years.ZV968

  5. DSS says:

On the electronic claim form “click here” to attach proof of purchase doesn’t work anyhow so it’s as if they don’t want you to be able to file a claim even if you could. The USPS loses my mail about 20% of the time so mailing it in has about a 20% chance of finding it’s way to it’s destination and then any settlement would have the same odds finding it’s way back.

  6. Martha says:

The important issue to me would be-
    Has this glucosamine/chondroitin product been
harmful to humans during all the years it has
    been available??

  7. Charles Walters says:

    @Carl – same. Just 3 days ago I mailed 500 points to the Ambassador club for a $10 coupon. I had numerous 40pt, 60pt, and 1 80 pt UPC.

As far as effectiveness, it did seem to work for several years and helped relieve some of my chronic knee pain without anti-inflammatories. At this point, really don’t notice any benefit but continue to take it – just in case! I know – terrible reason.

The lawyers will make a bundle and pennies will be left over for the product users! This is called American Justice.

  8. Carl F. Blair says:

This is a phony settlement. How many people keep grocery receipts for eight years. I personally have received five ten dollar($10.00) coupons through their Ambassador Club by submitting 500 points each in proof of purchase coupons. Considering the largest coupon value is 60 points. I have purchased some 40 plus bottles and I might get $12.00 back. WOW what a deal!

  9. Mary M. says:

OMG! I can’t believe this, I was taking this stuff like it was cracks, and still had to have surgery on my knee three times. I do have one receipts and a box around here some where.

  10. Kevin McCauley says:

I wish I had saved all the receipts, I’ve been using and still am for along time
