Amazon refunds
In September, the FTC announced Amazon has issued more than $845 million in refunds to eligible consumers and will continue sending automatic refunds to eligible Prime customers through April 2027.
Amazon has been sending refund payments since November 2025 to consumers affected by allegedly misleading enrollment and cancellation practices for Amazon Prime, according to the FTC.
The refund payments are the result of a settlement agreed to by Amazon to end claims the company enrolled tens of millions of consumers in Amazon Prime subscriptions without their knowledge or consent and made it difficult for customers to cancel their Prime subscriptions.
Consumers eligible for a refund under a revised settlement order must meet a total of three requirements:
- Being an Amazon Prime customer in the United States
- Signed up for a Prime subscription through a “challenged enrollment flow” or who tried to cancel through the online cancellation flow but were unable to do so between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025
- Used no more than 20 Amazon Prime Benefits during any 12-month period following enrollment in Amazon Prime
Eligible consumers do not need to take any action to receive a refund, according to the FTC, which said Amazon will send automatic payments.
The FTC said Amazon is required to pay a total of $1.5 billion in refunds to eligible consumers, in addition to a $1 billion civil penalty and order to “cease unlawful enrollment and cancellation practices for Prime subscriptions.”
Consumers who need help with their refund payment are asked to contact Amazon by email.
