Zurixx refunds

The FTC sent a second round of refund payments to consumers who paid Zurixx for allegedly deceptive real estate investment coaching programs.

Zurixx agreed to settle a complaint brought against it by the FTC and the Utah Department of Commerce Division of Consumer Protection over claims the company used false promises to sell real estate investment training and coaching programs.

The FTC previously sent more than $10.3 million in refund payments in July 2024 and, this time around, sent 19,744 payments totaling more than $1.8 million to consumers who accepted their first payment.

The second round of refunds was sent because there was money remaining in the settlement fund. Consumers who received a refund check are asked to cash it within 90 days.

American Vehicle Protection refunds

The FTC sent a second round of refund checks to consumers who bought extended warranties from telemarketer American Vehicle Protection.

American Vehicle Protection agreed to settle the FTC’s claims that it made illegal sales calls, pretended to represent car dealers and manufacturers and made false claims about expensive bumper-to-bumper auto warranties they offered.

The FTC previously sent more than $223,000 in refund payments in October 2024 and, this time around, sent 9,074 checks totaling more than $186,000 to consumers who accepted their first payment.

The second round of refunds was sent because there was money remaining in the settlement fund. Consumers who received a refund check are asked to cash it within 90 days.

American Financial Benefits Center refunds

The FTC sent Zelle payments to consumers who paid money to American Financial Benefits Center for student loan debt relief.

American Financial Benefits Center, along with its owner and co-founder, Brandon Frere, and related companies, was sued by the FTC and the Department of Justice in 2018 over allegations that they operated a student loan debt relief scheme.

The FTC previously sent refund payments in August 2023 and January 2025, totaling more than $8.9 million in refunds. Now, Zelle sent payments to consumers who didn’t cash their first check or accept their PayPal payment.

Consumers who receive a Zelle payment will have the money deposited directly into their bank account with a note about the settlement.

Golden Home Services settlement

The FTC sent more than $2.8 million in refund checks to consumers who paid Golden Home Services for mortgage debt relief.

Golden Home Services settled claims brought by the FTC and the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation alleging that it and its operators ran a deceptive mortgage loan relief scam.

The FTC and the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation argued Golden Home Services and its operators falsely promised to help homeowners obtain lower interest rates or monthly payments on mortgages.

Golden Home Services was also accused of collecting illegal upfront fees and misleading consumers to believe its services were connected to government mortgage relief programs or COVID-19 relief programs.

Consumers who received a refund check are asked to cash it within 90 days.

Yellowstone Capital refunds

The FTC sent a third round of refund payments to small businesses who were allegedly overcharged for merchant cash advances by Yellowstone Capital.

Yellowstone Capital agreed to settle the FTC’s claims that it withdrew hundreds or thousands of dollars from customer bank accounts without permission, and after they had already repaid the full amounts owed in their contracts.

The FTC previously sent refund payments in June 2022 and August 2024, totaling more than $9.1 million in refunds. Now, the FTC sent an additional 3,759 refund checks of over $549,000 to small businesses who cashed their previous check.

Small businesses who received a refund check are asked to cash it within 90 days.
