cymbalta lawsuitAccording to news reports, Cymbalta’s manufacturer Eli Lilly Co. has seen a trend of decreasing revenue during the 2014 year.

While all its prescription drug products have seen a decrease in sales, their popular antidepressant Cymbalta has seen a significant drop in sales, which may be due to more consumers becoming aware of Cymbalta withdrawal side effects that have allegedly plagued many antidepressant users.

Certain stock reports find that Eli Lilly’s U.S. revenues have fallen by 19 percent, which some stock experts have attributed to the loss of drug patents on their lead drugs Cymbalta and Evista, thus flooding the market with generic versions of these drugs.

However, Cymbalta in particular has experienced a 58 percent decrease in sales worldwide, with an 89 percent decrease in U.S. Cymbalta sales alone. Again, while this may be attributed to the loss of the Cymbalta drug patent, it may also be due to the recent publicity regarding Cymbalta withdrawal lawsuits alleging Eli Lilly hide significant Cymbalta withdrawal side effects from antidepressant consumers.

Regardless, Eli Lilly may continue to suffer more economic losses as an increasing number of plaintiffs file Cymbalta withdrawal lawsuits or join Cymbalta withdrawal class action lawsuits against the antidepressant manufacturers.

Cymbalta Antidepressant Discontinuation Syndrome

Cymbalta is a popular antidepressant medication that is designed, manufactured, and sold by Eli Lilly. Since Cymbalta was introduced to the North American pharmaceutical market in 2004, the antidepressant medication has consistently been the top selling Eli Lilly drug, which until recently brought in $5 billion in annual revenue.

Since its U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval, Cymbalta has been regularly prescribed by doctors to treat anxiety, fibromyalgia, chronic muscle and bone pain in addition to managing depression symptoms. However, recent reports and legal documents suggest Eli Lilly has not been completely honest with doctors and consumers about the prevalence of Cymbalta withdrawal symptoms.

Many consumers pursuing Cymbalta withdrawal symptoms lawsuits allege that Eli Lilly’s claim of a 1-2 percent Cymbalta withdrawal rate is false. External reports and drug studies conducted by Eli Lilly itself demonstrate that the rate of Cymbalta Antidepressant Discontinuation Syndrome is actually closer to 50 percent or higher.

A Cymbalta withdrawal symptoms drug study published in 2005 suggests that 51 percent of patients using Cymbalta have claimed experiencing some type of antidepressant discontinuation syndrome symptoms. According to the study, up to 17 percent allegedly experiencing the more severe withdrawal symptoms associated with Cymbalta antidepressant withdrawal.

This study was not conducted by a third party research company; rather, Cymbalta’s manufacturer Eli Lilly conducted this study in order to determine the extent of the Cymbalta withdrawal symptoms. It was reported that two weeks into conducting the study, none of the withdrawal symptoms had been resolved for any of the participating patients.

Some Cymbalta withdrawal side effects include:

  • Severe nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Dizziness, light-headedness, vertigo
  • Headaches
  • Hot and cold flashes
  • Mood swings, anxiety, irritability, hostility
  • Nightmares
  • Electric-shock-like sensations in the brain
  • Tingling, tickling, prickling, pricking, or burning sensations of the skin
  • Tremors, shaking hands
  • Visual disturbances

As a result of this and other studies, many antidepressant consumers are pursuing Cymbalta lawsuits and may choose to join a Cymbalta withdrawal symptoms class action lawsuit in the future.
