pseudotumor-birthcontrol-brainBristol Myers Squibb and Otsuka Pharmaceuticals is facing a new Abilify lawsuit, from a Florida man alleging serious financial loss and brain injuries.

According to the claim, the man’s Abilify brain injury is described as losing inhibitions towards compulsive behaviors like spending and gambling.

Allegedly due to the Abilify brain injury, the claimant allegedly lost thousands of dollars to compulsive gambling.

Plaintiff Evan O. is suing the pharmaceutical giants for allegedly failing to warn him against Abilify brain injury and other potential side effects that could occur during his prescription.

After going over different treatment options for his mental disorder with his physician, Evan was prescribed Abilify in 2012.

He stayed on the medication until 2016, after he had allegedly experienced pathological gambling and other compulsive behaviors that led to monetary loss.

Evan is filing this claim seeking compensation for his alleged Abilify brain injury, claiming the drug caused his behavioral problems with money.

Overview of Abilify Brain Injury Lawsuit

Abilify is a popular antipsychotic medication, often used to treat patients with extreme mental disorders with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Approved by the FDA in 2002, Abilify quickly became a popular treatment choice in America and had earned the manufacturing companies billions.

Even with its popularity, reports of Abilify brain injury were soon submitted and product liability allegations were made.

This medication works by balancing the dopamine and serotonin levels in the brain, to make overall improvements to emotional and mental processing.

However, this treatment mechanism may be responsible for causing numerous behavioral problems in patients due to the dopamine stimulation. As the brain chemical responsible for pleasure and rewards, humans naturally feel positive feelings when this chemical is engaged.

This treatment mechanism, however, also causes the patient’s inhibitions to be lowered, which has allegedly led to numerous monetary problems and Abilify brain injury in patients.

Several case studies indicate that Abilify patients are more likely to experience issues with compulsive behaviors like gambling and shopping.

Patients have complained of losing thousands of dollars due to the compulsive spending, with many of them filing legal action after the FDA announced potential Abilify brain injury.

The agency recently warned the population that Abilify may cause compulsive behaviors like shopping, gambling, and hypersexuality.

Patients complain that European and Canadian health officials were warned of this correlation earlier, leading to outcry from the American patient population. Evan states that he never would have taken Abilify if he had known the possibility of compulsive gambling.

His claim is joining other Abilify lawsuits alleging similar injuries, in multidistrict litigation (MDL) No. 2734.

The Abilify Brain Injury Lawsuit is Case No. 3:17-cv-00010-MCR-GRJ, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, Pensacola Division.

In general, Abilify lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
