TeleCheck-TRS-Recovery-ServicesTop Class Actions readers are starting to receive checks in the mail from a class action settlement that accused TRS Recovery Services and TeleCheck of sending deceptive debt collection letters to consumers who allegedly owed nothing.

According to reader comments and posts on the Top Class Actions Facebook page, Class Members who submitted timely and valid claims for the TeleCheck, TRS Recovery Services class action settlement began collecting checks worth as much as $59.69 on May 16, 2016.

The TeleCheck, TRS Recovery Services class action settlement resolves allegations that the agencies violated state and federal laws by sending out inaccurate debt collection letters.

Eligible Class Members in this settlement included three different groups:

  • All U.S. residents who TRS sent its RECR3 collection letter between Mar. 11, 2010 and July 30, 2015.
  • All U.S. residents TRS sent its RECR3 collection letter between Mar. 11, 2010 and July 30, 2015, and from whom one or both defendants collected in whole or in part, within 30 days of the RECR3 letter, the debt or returned check fee referenced in that RECR3 letter.
  • All U.S. residents who paid a returned check fee of $25 to at least one of the defendants by way of a TRS demand draft in connection with an underlying check transaction that occurred in the State of Maine between Mar. 11, 2005 and July 30, 2015.

Both TRS and TeleCheck deny the allegations but agreed to settle the class action lawsuit to avoid the risk and expense of further litigation.

The deadline to file a claim for the TeleCheck, TRS Recovery Systems class action settlement passed on Dec. 22, 2015.

    They spelled my first name wrong on the check what number or who to contact to get a replacement check with correct name on it because the numbers I was given no help at all?
