The Baking Institute Bakery Carrot Cake Recall Overview:

  • Who: The Baking Institute Bakery
  • What: The bakery’s carrot cake is being recalled because it may contain ingredients that weren’t disclosed on the label.
  • Where: The recall is limited to Illinois.

A carrot cake that may contain walnuts, coconuts and milk products that aren’t disclosed on the label is being recalled by the Baking Institute Bakery in Illinois.

The bakery, located in Northbrook, Illinois, announced this week it is recalling its Carrot Cake, as the cake may contain walnuts, coconuts and milk: allergens not declared on the label, ConsumerAffairs.com reports.

“Customers with an allergy or severe sensitivity to walnuts, coconuts and milk who purchased the recalled product should not consume it, but return it to the place of purchase for a full refund,” the recall says.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

No illnesses related to the undeclared allergens have been reported as yet, the company said.

According to the recall, the Carrot Cake was distributed to retail stores in northern Illinois.

It comes in 6-inch and 8-inch round plastic containers with a black base and a clear dome lid container.

Carrot cakes can sometimes be at the center of class action lawsuits. In 2020, a woman filed a class action lawsuit against Hostess Brands, accusing the company of misrepresenting the ingredients used in its Carrot Cake Donettes.

Plaintiff Donna James said the packaging on the product is misleading because the Hostess Donettes use fewer carrots than consumers expect and did not contain real carrots.
