Bagged Kale, Kroger Recall Details

Baker Farms and Kroger say that they have not received any reports of illness related to consuming the affected kale product. According to the recall notice issued by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Kroger pulled the recalled kale from its produce departments as of Sept. 16.

Customers who bought the affected 16 ounce Kroger kale product should dispose of it or can return it to its place of purchase for a full refund, says the company.

The products were reportedly distributed to Kroger stores in the Nashville, Columbus, and Atlanta Divisions, which service Columbus and Toledo, Ohio, Knoxville, Tennessee, eastern West Virginia, and the states of Alabama, South Carolina, and Georgia.

Customers who purchased the one pound bagged kale produced by Baker Farms should dispose of the product or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The Baker Farm’s recalled kale was sold at grocery stores, including Winn-Dixie, Harveys,  and Fresco Y Mas, as well as other retail locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New York, and Virginia.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious adverse effects in young children, the elderly, or those with compromised immune systems, according to the FDA. Healthy individuals may only suffer short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, nausea, and diarrhea.
