A number of popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced recalls this week for products that may pose potential injury to consumers.

Toyota recalls 280 BZ4X models due to potential wheel separation

On June 23, Toyota announced a recall for the company’s first fully battery-powered electric car, the 2023 BZ4X.

While only 280 of the BZ4X were to be sold in the United States with 260 of those being delivered, the recall affects 2,700 electric cars globally. Toyota is still investigating the defect, which occurs when bolts on the wheels gradually loosen and allow for the wheels to separate from the vehicle while driving.

Those who own a BZ4X SUV are encouraged to stop driving the vehicle immediately. While Toyota continues to investigate the cause of the defect, dealers will transport owners’ BZ4X vehicles to the dealership and provide a loaner vehicle.

Nissan, Ford recall Pathfinder, F-150 Lightning vehicles

On June 13, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website posted a Nissan recall for certain 2013-2016 Pathfinder SUVs.

The three-year time frame affects about 322,671 vehicles that may have a malfunctioning secondary hood latch. The defect may cause an unsecured hood that could open while driving, obstructing the driver’s view.

Nissan owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by July 18 with further instructions on what to do with the vehicles.

Similarly, Ford Motor Co. recalled about 2,900 of its F-150 Lightning trucks, 2,666 in the U.S. and 220 in Canada.

The recall was made due to a software issue where the trucks were not adequately providing a low tire pressure warning. The truck’s tire pressure monitoring system may not illuminate when intended because the recommended tire cold inflation pressure value was incorrectly set to 35 psi rather than the correct number of 42 psi.

Owners can either take their trucks to a dealership for a software update that takes approximately 20 minutes or wait a few weeks for an over-the-air update.

FDA issues recall for Panera corn chowder due to undeclared wheat

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration posted a recall notice to its website on June 24 for 2,500 cases of 16-ounce Panera at Home Southwest Corn Chowder.

Blount Fine Foods voluntarily recalled the product, which contained an undeclared wheat allergen that may cause serious or life-threatening allergic reactions to consumers with an allergy or severe sensitivity.

The recall includes one SKU of 16-ounce Panera at Home Southwest Corn Chowder cups produced with lot number 042122-2K and use-by date of June 30, 2022. The lot was distributed across 12 states: California, Iowa, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Texas and Virginia.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled chowder should return it to the place of purchase or visit https://www.blountfinefoods.com/recall.

Costco recalls SunVilla solar umbrellas in U.S., Canada

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall notice for SunVilla 10’ Solar LED Market Umbrellas on June 23.

The recall applies to about 400,000 umbrellas in the United States and 33,000 in Canada, 43,000 of which were sold exclusively at Costo. The umbrellas contain lithium-ion batteries in the solar panels that can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. So far, six reports of overheating batteries have been reported so far.

Costco has urged consumers to stop using the umbrellas and remove the solar panel puck containing the lithium-ion battery, then return the solar umbrellas to any Costco Warehouse nationwide.

The Children’s Place recalls baby boy rompers due to choking hazard

On June 23, the CPSC issued a recall for about 10,850 The Children’s Place Baby Boy Dino Rompers Two Pack in the United States and about 550 in Canada.

The Children’s Place rompers have a metal snap that the recall notice says can detach, posing a choking hazard to small children. There have been two reports of the snap detaching, with no injuries reported so far.

Consumers who purchased the blue, short-sleeve cotton Dino Rompers should immediately take the recalled products away from children and return them to any The Children’s Place store for a full refund.
