Toyota Tacoma recall overview:

  • Who: Toyota recalled more than 75,000 of its Tacoma pickup trucks, model years 2022 to 2023.
  • Why: The recalled vehicles have upper child seat anchors that could fail in a crash, potentially causing injury to the child.
  • Where: The recall is nationwide.

Toyota recalled about 75,400 Tacoma pickup trucks, model year 2022 to 2023, as the child seat anchors may fail in a crash.

The Toyota Tacoma recall was issued because the anchors may not have been welded in properly in the affected vehicles, AutoBlog reports.

As a result, the anchors could break free in a crash, and the child seat could also get loose. This could result in an injury to the child, according to Autoblog.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

The recall notice is not yet available on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, but consumers may check whether their Tacoma is affected by visiting toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls and inputting their truck’s VIN.

Toyota Tacoma recall over child seat anchors has no fix yet

Toyota does not yet have a fix for the issue but is working to develop one, Autoblog reports.

When a fix is ready, Toyota says, owners will be told to take the truck to a dealer for a free repair. Toyota will send out notifications to affected owners by mid-September 2022.

In July, Toyota agreed to pay $20 million to resolve a class action lawsuit claiming its Prius vehicles were equipped with defective inverters that failed prematurely.

Toyota also recalled more than 45,000 of its 2022 Tundra and Tundra hybrid vehicles.
