TJX chair recall overview:Â

- Why: The chairs can break, posing a fall hazard.
- Where: The TJX chair recall is active in the United States and Canada.
TJX announced a recall of more than 82,000 office chairs after multiple reports of them breaking, causing injuries.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website published the recall March 2. It applies to office chairs with a circle cushioned seat that attaches to an adjustable metal stand and five wheels with the style numbers GT646, GT646A, GT646AA, GT646AB and GT646AABO.
According to the TJX recall, the back of the chair can break or detach from the seat base when a consumer sits, posing a fall hazard.
The company has already received 12 reports in which the back of the chair broke or detached from the seat base when a consumer sat in a chair at the store, including 10 reports of injuries such as contusions, strains, numbness, bruising and a concussion, the chair recall states.
The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
Office chairs sold in the U.S., Canada, according to TJX recall
About 81,700 of the office chairs were sold in the United States and about 1,000 were sold in Canada.Â
The products were sold at Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods and Homesense stores nationwide from June 2019 through Dec. 2022 for between $60 and $70.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled chairs and contact TJX for instructions on how to participate in the recall and dispose of the chairs to receive a full refund, the chair recall says.Â
Consumers can also return the recalled chairs to any Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods or Homesense store for a full refund.
Last year, TJX issued a recall for around 30,600 of its Tommy Bahama and Martha Stewart brand Nest Swing Egg Chairs over concerns they can tip over or collapse when a consumer sits in them.Â
