Raw cheddar recall announced due to potential E. coli contamination

Raw cheddar recall overview: 

• Who: Raw Farms is recalling some lots of its block and shredded raw cheddar cheese. 
• Why: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found there is a possibility the raw cheddar cheese led to E.coli illnesses.
• Where: The cheddar E. coli recall applies across the United States.

Raw Farms has issued a raw cheddar recall due to the possibility that its block and shredded cheese products led to E. coli illnesses.

The cheddar E.coli recall includes Raw Farms’ 16-ounce and 8-ounce raw cheddar cheese blocks with batch code 20231113-1 or older, and the company’s 8-ounce raw shredded cheddar cheese with batch code 20240116 or older.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) say the products included in the raw cheddar recall could have led to illnesses between Oct. 18, 2023 and Jan. 31.

During that time, fecal samples from 10 patients in four states matched one another even though some patients did not report eating Raw Farm cheddar cheese or raw dairy products.

The illnesses remain under investigation.

No cheese that was consumed or available for sale tested positive for E.Coli.

Don’t consume recalled raw cheddar cheese, recall says

Raw Farms asked customers not to consume the cheddar subject to recall and to return it for a refund. Raw Farms is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

The FDA issued a salmonella-related recall in October 2023 for all oysters harvested in a specific area of Bedeque, Prince Edward Island, Canada, by Future Seafoods Inc.
