  • Why: The electronic start/stop button can malfunction and self-start, posing a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • Where: The recall is effective in the United States and Canada.

More than 54,000 pressure washers are being recalled in the United States and Canada as the washers can turn on by themselves, posing a carbon monoxide poisoning risk.

The recall notice was posted on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Website Apr. 28. It applies to Generac and DR Power brand electric start pressure washers with model numbers DPW3100DEN, DPW3101DEN, DPW3102DEN, G0071320, G0071321, G0071430 and G0071431.

The electronic start/stop button on the pressure washer can malfunction and self-start, posing a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if the unit is in a confined space, the recall states.ย

The firm has received nine reports of the pressure washers self-starting and operating without being connected to a water supply. No injuries or property damage have been reported so far, the company said.ย

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Generac Pressure Washer Recall Advises Consumers To Stop Using Product

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled pressure washer unless they have removed the rechargeable battery, the recall states. They should then contact Generac to arrange replacement of the faulty switch free of charge.ย

The pressure washer can continue to be used with the battery removed but using the pull-start option to start the unit.ย

About 53,000 washers are being recalled in the United States, and 1,750 were sold in Canada.

The affected products were sold at major home improvement and hardware stores nationwide and online from Feb. 2018 through Feb. 2022 for between $450 and $650.

Meanwhile, Generac has been hit with a class action lawsuit by owners of home standby generators who say the products have a dangerous safety defect.
