Epoch Everlasting Play Calico Critters recall overview: 

  • Who: Epoch Everlasting Play recalled more than 3.2 million Calico Critters animal figures and sets sold with bottle and pacifier accessories.
  • Why: The bottle and pacifier accessories pose a choking hazard to children. The company received two death reports.
  • Where: The recall is active in the United States.

Epoch Everlasting Play recalled more than 3.2 million of its Calico Critters animal figures sold with bottle and pacifier accessories after two reported deaths of babies who choked on the accessories.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website published the recall March 9. It applies to all Calico Critters flocked animal figures and sets sold with bottle and pacifier accessories, which totals more than 3.2 million units, the Epoch Everlasting Play recall states. The bottle and pacifier accessories pose a choking hazard to children.

The company is aware of three incidents involving the pacifier accessory, including two deaths, the recall states. One fatal incident involved a 2-year-old in 2018 in New Mexico, and the other fatal incident involved a 9-month-old in 2015 in Japan, according to the Calico Critters recall.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Replacement offered for bottle, pacifier, Epoch Everlasting Play recall states

Epoch Everlasting Play offers a replacement for the recalled items.

“Take the recalled bottle and pacifier accessories away from children immediately and contact Epoch Everlasting Play LLC for instructions on how  to submit a photo of the recalled bottle and/or pacifier accessory along with contact information and confirmation of destruction to receive a free replacement accessory,” the Calico Crittersrecall states.

The bottle accessories were sold in yellow, pink, blue and orange colors. One style of the bottle has two yellow handles. The pacifier accessories were sold in yellow, orange, pink, dark pink, blue and teal colors.

The products were sold at Walmart, Meijer and other stores nationwide and online at www.calicocritters.com and www.amazon.com from Jan. 2000 through Dec. 2021 for between $10 and $80.

In other recent recall news, Patagonia recently recalled more than 8,200 of its Infant Capilene Midweight Base Layer Sets as they pose a choking hazard to babies.
