Walmart, Pharmedica USA, Apotex Corp., Clark Associates, TJX, Russell Stover top recalls overview:

  • Who: Walmart, Pharmedia USA, Apotex Corp., Clark Associates, TJX, and Russell Stover recalled their respective products this week. 
  • Why: These top recalls revolve around product safety and possible risk of harm.
  • Where: The recalls are effective in the United States; the Clark Associates and TJX recalls are also effective in Canada.

Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced top recalls this week for products that may pose injury to consumers. 

Walmart Mainstays candles recalled

On Feb. 23, a recall was posted to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website for 1.2 million Mainstays candles sold exclusively at Walmart. Star Soap STar Candles Prayer Candle recalled the candles after they were found to be susceptible to burning too close to the side of the container, which can cause the glass to break and lead to a fire. 

The Mainstays Three-Wicked Candles in round 14-oz. Glass jars in Halloween and autumn themes were sold at Walmart stores nationwide and online at www.walmart.com from Sept. 2022 through Nov. 2022 for about $7. There has been one report of a minor cut, one report of a fire, and multiple reports of damage to nearby items. 

COnsumers should immediately stop using the recalled candles and contact Star Soap Star Candle Prayer Candle to receive a full refund. 

Pharmedica USA and Apotex Corp. recalls eye drops 

Two more brands of eye drops have been recalled, after a national spate of eye drop recalls due to a lack of sterility. Pharmedica USA recalled its Purely Soothing 15% MSM Drops due to non-sterility. On March 2, Apotex Corp. recalled its Brimonidine Tartrate Ophthalmic Solution due to cracks that have developed in the bottles, also leading to non-sterility.  

Pharmedica USA LLC stated that there have been no reports of any negative incidents or illnesses associated with the recalled product up to this point.

The product, which includes the affected eye drops with Lot no. 2203PS01 (1 oz, UPC 7 31034 91379 9) and Lot no. 1808051 (½ oz, UPC 7 31034 91382), was distributed worldwide by Purely Soothing LLC through online e-commerce and trade shows.

Clark Associates children’s high chairs recalled

On Feb. 23, the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission website published a recall for about 22,400 Lancaster Table & Seating high chairs sold in the United States and about 52 sold in Canada. 

The recall was initiated due to three instances of high chairs breaking while in use, resulting in children falling. Despite this, there have been no reported injuries. The recalled high chairs, available in black, mahogany, natural or walnut finishes, were sold either assembled or in a ready-to-assemble format. Only high chairs labeled as “Made in China” are affected. 

Consumers are advised to discontinue using the recalled high chairs and to return them to any of the Restaurant Store locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware or Maryland. Alternatively, they can contact Clark Associates for a complimentary replacement or store credit, according to the recall notice.

TJX recalls office chairs 

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website published a recall on March 2 for more than 82,000 TJX office chairs after multiple reports of them breaking and causing injuries. The office chairs have a circle cushioned seat that attaches to an adjustable metal stand and five wheels with the style numbers GT646, GT646A, GT646AA, GT646AB, and GT646AABO. 

The TJX recall notice warns that the back of the chair may break or separate from the seat base when a person sits on it, which creates a risk of falling. The company has received a total of 12 reports of the chair’s back breaking or coming off from the seat base when customers sat in the chair at the store. The recall report states that 10 of the incidents resulted in injuries such as bruises, strains, contusions, numbness, and even a concussion.

The products were sold at Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods and Homesense stores nationwide from June 2019 through Dec. 2022 for between $60 and $70.

Russell Stover peanut butter cups recalled

On Feb. 28, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website published a recall for two lots of Russell Stover’s Sugar Free Peanut Butter Cups packaged in 2.4 oz.  plastic bags with best-before dates of 01MAY23 and 01JUN23 and UPC of 077260096937.

According to the notice, Russel Stover recalled the peanut butter cups after consumers contacted the company regarding the wrong product inside packaging for Sugar Free Peanut Butter Cups. 

The recalled Sugar Free Peanut Butter Cups may contain Sugar Free Pecan Delights; Pecans are not declared on the label. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to pecans run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.”

Consumers who may have purchased the product may contact Russell Stover Chocolates directly for a voucher or replacement product.
