Art of Green has recalled more than 14,000 of its laundry detergent products, as the products may be contaminated with bacteria.
The recall was published on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website Dec. 12. It applies to Art of Green Free and Clear laundry detergent in 100-ounce bottles and Zen Lavender Garden laundry detergent in 100-ounce bottles and 33.8-ounce pouches.
The affected UPC codes and use-by dates can be seen on the CPSC website. About 14,550 products are included in the recall.
The recalled products can contain bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an environmental organism found widely in soil and water.
“People with weakened immune systems or external medical devices who are exposed to Pseudomonas aeruginosa face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment,” the recall states.
“The bacteria can enter the body if inhaled, through the eyes, or through a break in the skin.”
People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by the bacteria.
Affected Art of Green products can be returned for a refund
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Art of Green laundry detergent products and contact the firm for a full refund, the recall said.
To receive a refund, consumers should take a photo of the UPC and date code and dispose of the product by closing the bottle tightly and placing it in household trash. Do not empty the product prior to disposal.
The products were sold at Save Mart, Lucky and Food Maxx regional stores and online at Amazon.com from April through October 2022 for between $6 and $25.
Meanwhile, the Laundress has issued a recall for around 8 million of its laundry and household cleaning products over concerns they may contain elevated levels of bacteria, including multiple species of pseudomonas.
