Update:

  • The Laundress issued a recall for around 8 million of its laundry and household cleaning products over concerns they may contain elevated levels of bacteria, including multiple species of pseudomonas.
  • The recall, filed Dec. 1, comes just over a week after The Laundress released a safety notice warning its customers to stop using its products due to the same concern.
  • The Laundress says the potentially elevated levels of bacteria can cause adverse health effects in individuals with weakened immune systems, external medical devices or underlying lung conditions.
  • The Laundress found certain products manufactured between January 2021 and September 2022 contained elevated levels of bacteria, according to the recall.
  • The company urges consumers to immediately stop using the recalled products and offers full refunds.

The Laundress advised consumers to immediately stop using every single one of the luxury laundry detergent and fabric care company’s products over concerns some may contain an elevated level of bacteria.

Unilever-owned The Laundress listed a large number of affected products in its safety notice. Among the products listed on The Laundress safety notice include its Baby Detergent Packet, Delicate Lady Wash Packet, Ultimate Stain Solving Kit and All Purpose Bleach Alternative & Cleaning Concentrate Duo.

“This safety notice is to inform you to immediately stop using all The Laundress products in your possession,” The Laundress says in the notice. “We have identified the potential presence of elevated levels of bacteria in some of our products that present a safety concern.”

The Laundress says it has been working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to resolve the issue and “put the safety of our community above everything else.”

The Laundress apologized to consumers and attempted to reassure them that the “safety and quality” of its products is its “top priority.”

We deeply apologize for this situation. We are truly grateful for our entire Laundress Community and thank you for your understanding as we work our hardest to share updates with you,” The Laundress safety notice says.

I tried to log in to my account on The Laundress website and it says, I don’t have an account with them. I specifically bought from their website so I don’t purchase fake items.

  2. Christina says:

I have purchased Laundress cleaning and laundry products and they are part of the recall. However, trying to get through their system for the recall is absolutely horrible. You have to deal with a chatbot that is zero help. I called customer service and sat on hold for 30 minutes for them to tell me that you MUST go through the chat bot and they could not help me. They could care less about trying to help the customers that have products that are recalled. I’m disgusted with them! They also changed their website system so I was unable to access my account. The website says my account doesn’t exist so I cannot get my order information. But I do have an account because I have shopped directly through them and they still send me emails…it is ridiculous!

I have purchased hundreds of dollars (in the past 6 months) of the Laudress cleaning items as their signature laundry, wool, delicate, whites, surface cleaner, stain remover- you get the picture. I loved it. I am so sorry. What if the bacteria has colonized in my washing machine? Does it live on my towels? Will washing them with something else clean off the bacteria? Was it found during normal testing, is it in other brands, how do I know? I want more information please.
