Dole is recalling a number of packs of its blueberries after it discovered a potential cyclospora contamination in the berries.

Dole Diversified North America, Inc. issued the voluntary recall Thursday, in association with the US Food and Drug Association (FDA). The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits

Dole said a number of its six-ounce, 18-ounce, 24-ounce, and pint-sized clamshells of Dole Fresh Blueberries were impacted. You can see a full list of the impacted products in the recall alert

It said the impacted products were distributed in Illinois, Maine, New York, and Wisconsin, as well as in Alberta and British Columbia in Canada.

The company advised consumers to check products they have in their homes and discard any product matching the production description, UPC codes, and product lot codes listed in the recall.

The cyclospora parasite can cause cyclosporiasis, an intestinal infection, the recall says. A person may become infected after ingesting food or water contaminated with the parasite.

“Common symptoms include severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, body aches, and fatigue,” the company said. The infection is typically treated with antibiotics.

Dole said no illnesses had been reported to date in association with the recall.

This is not the first time Dole has had issues with blueberries.

In 2016, plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit alleging Dole misled consumers by labeling its frozen berry products as “all natural” when they contain synthetic ingredients won in the Ninth Circuit, although they struggled to claim damages.
