nylabone natural nubz edible chewsNylabone dog products are not “natural” as advertised by the manufacturer, according to a recent class action lawsuit.

Nylabone Corp. manufacturers numerous types of dog products including dental spray, dental chews, toothpaste, edible treats, and interactive treats such as chew toys which have edible treats inside.

Plaintiff Keith Scandore argues that these products are marketed and advertised as “natural” in order to appeal to “health-conscious consumers.”

However, the Nylabone class action lawsuit claims that these representations are false.

Instead, the products allegedly contain synthetic ingredients including the following: riboflavin; niacin; folic acid; citric acid; gelatin; ascorbic acid; zinc oxide; sorbitol; and more. These ingredients are produced synthetically, which Scandore argues makes the Nylabone products not natural.

“Discovering that the ingredients are not natural and are actually synthetic requires a scientific investigation and knowledge of chemistry beyond that of the average consumer,” the Nylabone class action argues.

“That is why, even though the ingredients listed above are identified on the back of the products’ packaging in the ingredients listed, the reasonable consumer would not understand – and is not, and should not be, expected to understand – that these ingredients are synthetic.”

Scandore argues that he and other consumers relied on Nylabone’s representations when purchasing the products. If they had known that the products were not natural, Scandore claims that they would not have purchased them or would have paid significantly less for them.

The Nylabone class action lawsuit claims that the manufacturer knew that customers would rely on the labeling of the dog products when purchasing. According to Scandore, Nylabone made deceptive and misleading statements about their products being “natural” in order to induce consumers to pay a premium price.

“Reasonable consumers, including Plaintiff and Class Members, value natural products for important reasons, including the belief that they are safer and healthier than alternative products that are not represented as natural,” the Nylabone class action lawsuit states.

These actions allegedly violate several federal and state consumer protection laws including the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

Scandore seeks to represent a Class of consumers who purchased Nylabone dental solutions, edible treats, and interactive treats within the relevant statute of limitations. Scandore also seeks to represent a New York subclass.

The Nylabone class action lawsuit argues that Nylabone was unjustly enriched as a result of their deceptive marketing.

He seeks restitution and disgorgement of these “ill-gotten gains,” as well as compensatory damages, exemplary damages, statutory damages, punitive damages, interest, court costs, and attorneys’ fees.

Scandore and the proposed Class are represented by Jason P. Sultzer, Janine Pollack, and Jeremy Francis of The Sultzer Law Group PC; and Melissa S. Weiner and Joseph C. Bourne of Pearson Simon & Warshaw LLP.

The Nylabone Natural Class Action Lawsuit is Scandore v. Nylabone Corp., Case No. 1:20-cv-00254, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

My little girls 7 now and she loves these nubzs now I’ve had to take them away and it has effected her mood. She’s all the time having diarrhea after she has had a few of them and thought nothing of it. Now I know why. I’m gonna take her to the vet because she’s having issues breathing and she’s acting like she’s in pain. Now I hope she’s gonna be okay and I have to find her another favorite treat just so I can see her happy again . Thank you

My dog isn’t doing well, he ate nubz all the time. I just went to give him one from a brand new bag. They were cover with something white on them. Not sure if it’s mold or what. I have pictures of it.

I have been purchasing Natural Nubz for years @ Costco, I had no idea they were terrible, being made in the USA, I served this country @ 17 years of age, and I am pissed that it now seeks to kill Americans and our pets. May almighty God pour down his vengeance on all the Evil in our once Great country.

  3. Carolyn Folk says:

How does this happen? Made in the USA means nothing anymore. Dog got sick on Nubz peanut butter “natural ” treats. Another thing…why is there chicken in “peanut butter” dog treats. ALOT of dogs are allergic to chicken bah….

  4. Michelle says:

Well I purchased 2 bags of the edible treats for my dogs and new puppy. Now my older dog is having diarrhea from the Nylabone Natural Nubz Dog Chews. Ruined 2 area rugs , and 24 hrs later still having issues !!

  5. Regina Christensen says:

I purchased the Nylabone chew bone for my furbaby, within days after taking it away we had diarrhea, vomiting, pain discomfort, whining, bloody stools, 2 rounds of antibiotics, one vet visit for subcutaneous fluids injection, IV antibiotics, and 2 rounds of antibiotics at home 😡This product by all means is not safe for any size dogs as it guess what??? Caused a blockage, and my baby girl is still fighting through the missery as of today. This company will be responsible for her vet bills, pain and suffering!

  6. Karissa Hanson says:

I bought this brand for the first time ever and my 8.5 year old lab had a seizure for the first time in her life after having one of these dog chews. She had a full vet work up (including very expensive ultrasound) and everything came back normal.. I read about the recall and how pet parents were claiming this product gave their dog seizures, but that the company (of course) denied these claims, and how there was many lawsuits against this company. It is UNREAL to me how this company is still making this product and putting it on the shelves and HARMING our furbabies!!!!! I will NEVER buy any nylabone product ever again. It is trash!

  7. Liz says:

I was gifted a bag of Nubz, don’t even want to risk giving them to my dogs. How does this continue after 2 years?

  8. Jennifer Parker says:

My chihuahua mix started vomiting last Friday and was sent to emergency where they took X-rays and said they could
Not see a blockage so sent him
Home staying it was probably gastritis. a day later he was vomiting again. I took him to a vet and they too said it was likely gastritis or pancreatitis and had me bring him in three days in a row for fluids (bill now at $3k). On the third day they suggested an ultra sound – my dog still hasn’t eaten in nearly a week. The ultrasound revealed a blockage now
In the middle of his intestine which requires emergency surgery (this was last night!). They had to remove part of his inestjne which had torn due to the object and started leaking toxins into my babies body! The object: a piece of NYLABONE!!! Not only has this now cost me close to $10k but my dog had to go through this life threatening experience and of course I’ve been beside myself!!! I want to sue this company for misleading me to believe they were safe, healthy options for my dog!!!

  9. Amy Vandertuyn says:

OMG! I reply on these daily for my 3 dogs to keep them busy as I work. I purchase them because of the “natural” label. I have used them for years and spent a small fortune. I am pretty upset that they can mislead us like this. Our pets are loved like family. I would like to be on the class action suit! Its scary to not be able to rely on the labels, especially if you consider yourself a careful shopper for your fur babies.

  10. Holly Dickson says:

I gave our dog a “healthy” nylabone edible and she ate 3/4 of it in 10 minutes before I took it away from her. She had vomiting and diarrhea all night. Definitely not healthy!
