The Britax BOB stroller is extremely popular among parents, as well as extremely high-end—their line of jogging strollers retails for between $200 and $400. Unfortunately, BOB jogging strollers have been associated with a serious defect that can lead to major injuries for children and parents.

Is the BOB Stroller Safe?

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has reported receiving 200 complaints between 2012 and 2018 about the Britax BOB jogging stroller over defective wheels. Among these reports, nearly 100 included injuries to children and adults alike.

According to reports, the front wheel of the three-wheeled stroller would fall off, which could cause the strollers to move wildly or sometimes flip over. These strollers were intended for people to jog with their children, so in many cases, these incidents occurred while the stroller was traveling quite fast in the first place. Reports included injuries to both parents and children, some of which were quite horrific—broken bones, broken teeth, and lacerations, among others.

Is the BOB Stroller Recalled?

Because of the defect and associated injuries that have been reported, the agency determined back in 2017 that the BOB jogging strollers should be recalled, and requested that the stroller’s manufacturer, Britax Child Safety, issue a voluntary recall. “The danger that was there was just so obvious,” said Marietta Robinson, the former commissioner of the CPSC, reports The Washington Post. “It was appalling.”

Have Any Britax Lawsuits Been Filed?

However, despite the CPSC’s request that the Britax recall nearly 500,000 strollers, the company maintained that the strollers were safe and kept them on the market. In response, the CPSC sued in February 2018 to force a recall. Still, Britax continued to fight the federal agency.

The company reached a settlement in November 2018 when it agreed to offer consumers who purchased BOB strollers in October 2015 or earlier a discount on future purchases, and created a YouTube video with instructions for installing the front wheel. This, of course, does nothing to remove dangerous products from the market and doesn’t help those who have already been injured by these defective strollers.

In the last couple of years, several posts at the CPSC were replaced with members of the Trump administration, and these members are the ones who voted to accept this settlement instead of pursuing a recall further.

Filing a Britax Lawsuit

Many owners of Britax BOB strollers are not aware of the defects associated with the product or the subsequent recall effort, and Britax has made no effort to warn consumers of the risk, maintaining that the product is safe for this use.

If your Britax BOB stroller has suffered from the front-wheel defect, you may be able to join this class action lawsuit investigation and pursue compensation. Of course, filing a lawsuit cannot undo the pain and suffering caused by stroller-related injuries, but it can at least help to alleviate the financial burden, as well as hold the company responsible for the problem accountable for its actions.

Filing a lawsuit can be complicated, but Top Class Actions can connect you with an experienced consumer safety attorney to help you determine if you have a claim and navigate the litigation process.
